Awards and Announcements
· CHHS student artwork on display at Dallas Museum of Art
Five Advanced Placement studio art students from Colleyville Heritage High will be recognized as part of the Young Masters Art Exhibition in January at the Dallas Museum of Art. Each student will have one piece of artwork on display in this exhibit, which contains only 38 pieces of artwork from art students throughout Tarrant and Dallas counties. CHHS students are: Krystal Agu, Jim Lusk, Erin Schwarzbach, Sydney Spann and Steven Vaughan. The exhibition is sponsored by AP Strategies and the O’Donnell Foundation and runs from Jan. 27-March 26, 2006, at the Dallas Museum of Art. The students will be honored at a reception and awards ceremony on March 7.
· CES student chosen for student ambassador program
Logan Epperson, a fifth-grader at Colleyville Elementary, has been selected to the People to People Student Ambassador Program. He will travel to Hawaii this summer with a group of 30-40 other elementary students to participate in hands-on cultural experiences, behind-the-scenes access and outdoor experiences. This program is by invitation-only and is designed to provide international educational opportunities for students in elementary through high school. Founded by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Student Ambassador program has escorted students to all seven continents over the past 50 years. Information: 817-305-4940.
What’s Happening This Week
· Polar Express Day at HES
Heritage Elementary kindergarteners and their parents will take a virtual trip to the North Pole aboard the HES Polar Express beginning at 8:15 a.m. Dec. 20. They will make stops for ice skating, cookie decorating and making a special project in Santa’s workshop. Rudolph and the other reindeer will be on hand to a sleigh-driving lesson and the students will wrap up the tour with playtime in Santa’s Toyland. Students are encouraged to wear pajamas to school for this event. Information: 817-305-4820.
· Early dismissal/end-of semester
GCISD students will have early release dates on Dec. 20-21 for the Winter break. On Dec. 20-21, middle school will release at 11:20 a.m. and high school will release at 12:05 p.m. On Dec. 21, elementary school will release at 1 p.m. and high school will release at 10:50 a.m. Winter break for students is Dec. 22-Jan. 3. GCISD employees return Jan. 2 for work days/staff development. Classes will resume Jan. 4.
· GHES holiday sing-along
Students, parents and friends of Glenhope Elementary will participate in a holiday sing-along at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 21 at the school. Information: 817-251-5720.
Upcoming Calendar Items
· GCISD students, staff return for spring semester
GCISD campus and administrative staff will return Jan. 2 for a work day and staff development training. Students return Jan. 4 to start the spring semester.
· All-District Honor Choir
Students from GCISD’s four middle schools who have been selected for the GCISD Middle School All-District Honor Choir will join for a clinic and concert on Jan. 6-7 at Cross Timbers Middle School. Students auditioned for the 80-voice choir in December. Information: 817-251-5514.
