Colleyville Candidate Mark Jones is listed on supporters of League of the
South web site.
After LNO posted the article reporting
Colleyville City Council Candidate Mark Jones DWI and weapons
arrest, a anonymous tip recommending the web site http://www.DixieNet.org
be reviewed concerning Jones' support.
|
The
web site says it’s a group of Southerners who want to secede
from the Union.
 |
Mark Jones of Colleyville is listed on the
site under a column headed by THANKS:
We would like to acknowledge the
following individuals who have signed up with the LS/LDA long distance
plan:
Mark Jones of Colleyville is listed.
The philosophy is spelled out by Michael Hill, listed as
President of the League:
"Today's white Christian Southerners are the blood descendants of the men and women who settled this country and gave us the blessings of freedom and prosperity. To give away this inheritance in the name of "equality" or "fairness" would be unconscionable. As the progeny of Lee, Jackson, Forrest, and Davis, let us summon the courage to defend what the God of the ages has given us. No one else will do it for us."
The position paper of the League
states as follows:
The
League of the South does not advocate the overthrow
of the United States government. We do, however, believe in the
Jeffersonian principle that free people may change their
government if, over a long period of time, it becomes
destructive of life, liberty, and property. Consequently, we
reject the central government's continuing usurpation of state
sovereignty and support the restoration of self-government to
the Southern people. If this means secession and
formation of a Southern nation, then so be it. Self-government,
as our forebears understood, is necessary for the preservation
of ordered liberty.
While Mark Jones made his appearance at Monday evening's
Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, LNO Citizen Reporter
Linda Baker was unable to speak to Jones about the site.
Immediately after the meeting Jones left through a back
entrance.
LNO has learned that the
information of Jones showing up as a supporter of the group was passed along to the Star-Telegram last week but
editors apparently determined not to report on the matter. LNO has
learned that Jones told third parties that he "signed up
for a long distance service at a gun show." Jones
allegedly said that he didn't know that funds went to support
the League of the South effort.
However, LNO has obtained information pertaining to the service
referred to as LS/LDA Long-Distance Plan:
The promotional material clearly states the funds are going to
support the League as follows:
SAVE MONEY & MAKE MONEY FOR THE LEAGUE
LDA provides long distance services for a host of conservative, Christian, and Southern heritage organisations. LDA will place you with a long distance service that does not support anti-Southern causes. You will be guaranteed a minimum of 10%, 20%, 30% or more in long distance savings, or DOUBLE YOUR MONEY BACK.
In addition, each month LDA will donate 5% of your long distance usage (in the form of a check) to The League of the South.

Today is the last day for a
candidate to withdraw their name from the ballot. As of 4
pm Jones had apparently not withdrawn. LNO has also
learned that Councilman Mark Skinner has asked the City Attorney
to defined "moral turpitude."
Jones made no public comment at the P&Z meeting Monday
night.
