Colleyville Mark Skinner endorses all 6 Bond issues in  email.  Declares opposition to be "angry 10" made up of  "
uninformed has-beens", "wanna-bes”, and “cling-ons” from our storied Colleyville political past"
Local News Only submits invitation to Councilman Skinner and Colleyville CAN with offer to broadcast LIVE Internet discussion on bond issues.

Mark Skinner
"Every single one of them was overwhelmingly defeated in various elections over the past several years."

Less there be any doubt, Colleyville Councilman Mark Skinner put to rest any doubts of where he stands on the Feb. 5th Bond Issues with a belligerent email sent on Thursday.

Local News Only.com received 5 copies from local citizens disclosing what could best be described as a tirade against un-named individuals that oppose the Bond Issue, in particular Proposition 6, the payment of $13.75 million to bury private power lines with taxpayer monies.

A exact copy of the Skinner email is seen below:

Subject:
Bond Watch 2005!
Ladies and Gentlemen,

I apologize if this takes up your valuable time but I am deeply compelled to write to you today from my heart. I’m writing to you as a private citizen of Colleyville who knows first hand what kind of effort and thought process went into the six bond initiatives that are before you on the February 5, 2005 ballot.

In today’s mail I received a political action committee document from the local “say-no-to-everything faction”.

Please, take the time to read it. I encourage you to. Memorize the names of the people quoted and pictured. You’ll see all the old “has-beens”, “wanna-bes”, and “cling-ons” from our storied Colleyville political past. I refer to them as the “angry 10”. That’s about how many of them there are and they’re generally the same ones each time some sort of trash like this is propagated throughout our community. They’re all spouting their uninformed, negative, and venomous rhetoric to anyone who’ll listen regarding the upcoming bond election. They want you to believe that they’re the all knowing political oracles they once saw themselves as. Wise men desperately concerned for our future. They want you to think they know first hand what they’re speaking about. Read it!

Guess what! Every single one of them was overwhelmingly defeated in various elections over the past several years. Each and everyone of them told by the voters “bye-bye!” Why you ask? Because Colleyville is a positive and progressive community and we have grown tired of their continual “chip-on-the-shoulder” negative mentality and ego empowerment conduct. They just don’t seem to hear the message. So they keep hanging around pitifully hoping someone, somewhere, will hear their rueful “Chicken Little” cries.

I firmly believe that the majority of Colleyville’s citizens are supportive of the vision and plan this bond program represents. But, do you know the flip side of that coin? It’s simply: “happy people are complacent people”. Complacent people don’t care enough to go to the polls and express their views. We stay at home and think to ourselves “it really doesn’t affect me or my family one way or the other”. My friends and neighbors this mentality can’t be further from the truth. It will affect you.

THIS COMPLACENT ATTITUDE WILL DOOM OUR COMMUNITY TO MEDIOCRITY! Look in your mailbox. Read what the “angry 10” have to say and how they’re spending their money to ensure that the other 20,000 of us continue to mire ourselves and our community in their egotistical misery. THIS IS WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU DON’T BECOME ACTIVE IN YOUR COMMUNITY AFFAIRS!

THE TIME HAS COME TO SEND A LOUD AND CLEAR MESSAGE: We are tired of you and your negative politics. We’re tired of your endless distortion of the facts. We’re tired of your innuendoes and blatant misrepresentations. We’re tired of your adolescent “it’s not my idea so it’s not a good idea” attitude towards our great city. We’re tired of your negative personal attacks on the people whom serve this community! The citizens of Colleyville are tired of your unethical attempts to empower yourselves and your political “puppets”.

I’m asking you to help put an end to this type of behavior. Be an educated, informed and ACTIVE citizen. Please go to the polls and let the “angry 10” know that they’re way out of sync with the real Colleyville citizens. I strongly urge each of you to become active participants in Colleyville’s future and I asking you to encourage others act the same. When the real majority of Colleyville’s citizens make their voices heard the “angry 10” will find another playground.

WE ARE READY TO MOVE AHEAD WITH NEW, DYNAMIC,  AND VISIONARY LEADERSHIP THAT UNDERSTANDS WHAT A DRAMATIC IMPACT A POSITIVE PERSPECTIVES BRINGS TO COLLEYVILLE!

Send the message loud and clear:

VOTE “YES” TO ALL 6 OF THE BOND BALLOT INITIATIVES ON FEBRUARY 5, 2005 AT CITY HALL.

Please send this message to all of Colleyville. It’s time to move ahead!

Sincerely,

Mark Skinner

When told of Skinner's email,  Dennis Johnson, Treasurer of Colleyville, said that if Skinner was sincere about discussing issues, versus making personal attacks, CAN would like a forum available to the general public.

LNO agreed to host a LIVE INTERNET discussion to be made available to the public originating from the LNO studios and sent the following email to Skinner on Friday morning.

January 28, 2005 @ 9.28 am
Councilman Skinner:

Dennis Johnson of Colleyville CAN has approached Local News Only.com (LNO) with a request to host a discussion on the upcoming February 5th Bond Election. Taking into account your support of all 6 Bond Propositions, Mr. Johnson said his organization will provide a spokesman for the discussion and requested that LNO extend an invitation to you.

As a public service to the citizens of Colleyville LNO has agreed to host the discussion via a LIVE broadcast on the Internet. The broadcast will originate from LNO's studio in Colleyville and be available live from a link on the LNO site. Anyone with DSL, Cable or other broadband connection will be able to view the discussion live using any standard video software, such as Windows Media. The discussion will also be digitally recorded and available by video on demand at anytime.

LNO is prepared to do the broadcast any evening from January 31st thru February 4 at your convenience. LNO will provide a moderator, or you can suggest a moderator for the event. We anticipate the event to take about 30 minutes, however we have no actual time constraints.

There will be no charge of any kind to the public, you or the CAN organization. LNO is committed to bringing local viewers unique coverage not found with any other source.

Please indicate to us by this weekend the date that would be convenient for you by calling LNO at 817-416-6934, Editor's extension 103.
LNO will announce the event in advance to other local media and extend an invitation for other media to cover the event as well.

Thank you for taking the opportunity to share with citizens your views through utilization of this unique media.

Nelson Thibodeaux
Editor, Local News Only.com

Skinner was quoted in the same issue of The Colleyville Courier, saying that most council members supported most issues but had changed their minds.  However, video clips from the last CIP workshop, before the council voted 4 to 1 to place the bond issue on the ballot, the council seems to be in significant disagreement on the bond package.

Council member Elaine Dolan points out that she has received negative emails from citizens that do not what their taxes increased. To hear her comments at the meeting,

Councilman Skinner says he has not received, "a single email against the bond issue."

Councilman Rich Hendler says he has received negative emails about raising taxes but not passing tax generating projects.
Skinner continues to speak in a loud tone of voice to Dolan demanding to know more about her email sources.  Finally, Mayor Pro Tem Jon Ayers points out that Mayor Pro Tem Jon Ayers states that the council created its own controversy which is what will be reflective of what is going to be going on city-wide.

Skinner concludes that that because we voted down a tax generating business, we have "no business bringing a tax increase to the citizens, I disagree."

In addition to the exchanges at the workshop, the City Manager of Colleyville Bill Lindley on November 2, 2004 actually sent a memo to the mayor and council with the conclusion that Proposition 6 be dropped from the bond election.  Lindley's memo stated "..the legal ability to issue this type of debt is still in question and subject to the Courts interpretation. Based on the limited opinion received from the AG's Office, my recommendation would be for the City Council to not consider including this project as part of the proposed bond program..."  Click Here to see the Lindley memo.

As of 8:00 pm on Friday, January 28th, Councilman Mark Skinner had not responded to the invitation to appear in a public forum broadcast LIVE on the Internet free to all Internet users.

When contacted and told that Skinner had not responded, CAN Treasurer Dennis Johnson said, "I have heard about Mark Skinner's legendary temper and it certainly appears he has a lot of pent up anger.  His attacks against our organization are not only inaccurate but border on the irrational.  We have offered to appear at the same forum, allow him to pick the moderator and provide the citizens an opportunity to hear both sides.  In Skinner's bloviating email he provides not one single reason to support any of the bond issues.  Now Skinner will not meet on a level playing field to even discuss the bond issues, choosing instead an underground email campaign with personal attacks."

Concerning Skinner's comment "Every single one of them was overwhelmingly defeated in various elections over the past several years."  Johnson said that he has never ran for office, therefore certainly has not lost an election.  Johnson said, "Skinner is confused or deliberately misleading people, either way, I don't think this adds anything to legitimate discussion."
