Colleyville Man Charged with distribution of child pornography

Douglas S. Smith, Jr., 61,  a former high-ranking Boy Scouts of American official, has been a program director coordinating scouting programs with schools and churches.  He was accused on charges revealed today, filed on March 21st by federal prosecutors, of receiving images over the Internet in February of children engaging in oral sex, intercourse and other sexually explicit conduct.

The national spokesman for the Boy Scouts, Gregg Shields, provided a statement to the media that said, "we are shocked and dismayed to learn of these charges."  Shields said that Smith had been employed by the Boy Scouts for 39 years and there had never been any indication of a problem.

Local and national media swarm down on the home of Smith in Colleyville on Tuesday afternoon.
Apparently none of the photos in question showed boys in Boy Scout uniforms.  The Boy Scouts said that Smith did not work directly with children however, has been "put on leave immediately."

Smith is not talking to the media and referring any questions to his attorney Jack Strickland.
