Colleyville Police chase ends up in
destruction of famous Couch property and assault on police officer. After a Friday night car chase, including the suspect crashing into a city-owned building, followed by a foot chase after the offender into a local grocery store, plus a fight, Officer Raymon Cannon can testify to the veracity of the oft-repeated police credo, "There is no such thing as a routine traffic stop."
Officer Raymon Cannon attempted to
stop the a vehicle on Friday night, however the suspect fled and
the chase was on!
Skid marks can be seen on the
lower left where the Suburban began to loose control and crash
into the landmark building. The suspect attempt to escape and
was subdued in the Colleyville Kroger store.

At 9:37 PM, Officer Raymon Cannon attempted to stop a Chevrolet Suburban by turning on the red and blue lights on his cruiser, in the area of Hillside and Bransford Road. The driver ignored the hail, and sped up his large SUV, heading towards Pleasant Run Road. Officer Cannon turned on the siren, but the man still would not yield, and ultimately lost control of the Suburban, crashing it into the north side of the former Couch building, about a block north of the Kroger. The empty building is currently owned by the City of Colleyville.
The fleeing suspect crashed into
a storage building next to the historic Couch property.
Apparently in the storage building was a sign from Colleyville's
past. The impact exploded the storage building, destroyed
the north east corner of the building and left a remnant from
the building's past standing askew.
Apparently unharmed by the collision, the suspect took off to the south on foot diagonally across the parking lots of the Chase Bank and other buildings in the general direction of Glade Road and Colleyville Boulevard. He then dashed into the Kroger Grocery Store at 4904 Colleyville Boulevard, with Officer Cannon in hot pursuit.
Officer Cannon apprehended the man inside the Kroger after the offender fled down one of the aisles to the rear of the store. The man, later identified as Doug Bachstein, was brandishing a Sharpie pen in his hand as a weapon, and was running in the direction of a woman shopping with a small child, when he suddenly turned and charged Officer Cannon.
Officer Cannon showed great restraint, and kept his weapon holstered. But the fight was on. Both the seemingly desperate suspect and the police officer were locked in a scuffle on the floor, until moments later when Officer Jennifer Holderead arrived to assist, subdue, and handcuff Bachstein.
Bachstein was arrested and taken to the Colleyville Justice Center, where he remains at press time. He is currently charged with a warrant for Probation Violation, Resisting Arrest, and Assault On a Peace Officer.
The owner of the Suburban, who lives in Colleyville, was contacted by the Police and confirmed that Doug Bachstein had been given permission to use the vehicle, and that Bachstein had been living at that address.
