GET RID OF LEFTOVER PAINT, OIL AND OTHER CRUD
Crud Cruiser To Accept Leftover Household Chemicals For Free
Colleyville residents can get rid of hazardous household chemicals-- otherwise known as crud-- from the garage, storage shed or under the kitchen sink for free on Saturday, April 30, 2005. Residents should bring household chemical waste to the Crud Cruiser, a specially equipped collection trailer, to the parking lot south of City Hall located at 100 Main Street from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., or until full.
The Crud Cruiser accepts used motor oil and oil filters, antifreeze, batteries, paint, cleansers, pesticides, fluorescent light bulbs and other potentially dangerous products that should not be placed in the trash.
There is no charge for dropping off household chemical waste at the Crud Cruiser, but Colleyville residents should bring a current water bill as proof of residency.
Follow these important safety guidelines when bringing waste to the Crud Cruiser:
· Load items in the trunk or pickup bed-- never inside the car with you.
· Keep products in their original containers, when possible.
· Don’t mix chemicals.
· If a container is broken or leaking, place it in a second container made of similar material. (Place corrosives in glass, flammables in metal.)
· If a label has come off and you know what’s inside, please mark the container to identify contents.
· Do not put containers in a plastic bag where chemicals might mix, causing a dangerous reaction.
· Place containers in a box to keep them from tipping over.
· When you arrive at the Crud Cruiser event, watch for workers who will direct you where to stop for unloading.
· Stay in your car, pop the trunk latch and workers will remove items for you. You may tell workers if there’s anything you don’t want removed.
· Be prepared to show your water bill
The Crud Cruiser event is sponsored by Colleyville as a safe, convenient way to get rid of unwanted waste and prevent pollution. Because household chemicals are dangerous to garbage collectors, they cannot be placed on the curb for regular trash pickup. Chemical waste that is dumped illegally on vacant property or in storm drains can pollute area creeks and lakes.
For more information about the Crud Cruiser household chemical collection, go to www.colleyville.com or call 817.503.1113.
Because federal regulations limit what the Crud Cruiser can carry—it is first come, first served. Once your neighbors fill up the trailer with their crud, workers may not be able to accept yours. So don’t wait until the last minute!
