Bring DVDs for troops to Celebrate Colleyville

November 23, 2005
Colleyville Kicks Off 7th Annual Holiday Event
As Celebrate Colleyville embarks on its seventh year, organizers want to ensure that holiday revelers don’t forget about those who can’t be home for the holidays—American soldiers stationed abroad.

“Celebrate Colleyville is about creating a family tradition to celebrate the holiday season with fun and games, and entertainment that can be enjoyed by everyone. But this year, we have a lot of loved ones who can’t be home during the holidays—so it was important to us to make our troops a part of our holiday celebration—even if they can’t be home,” remarked Jamie Thibodeaux, chairman of the Celebrate Colleyville committee.

Organizers have teamed with the USO based at DFW International Airport to coordinate a DVD drive for soldiers returning to Iraq or Afghanistan. Donations of new or used DVDs can be made at the Celebrate Colleyville event on Dec. 3, or at early drop-off locations at the Colleyville Library, Colleyville Chamber of Commerce or Market Street in Town Center.

Celebrate Colleyville kicks off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, at Colleyville Center, 5301 Riverwalk Drive. Kids will delight in a bevy of bounce houses, petting zoos, holiday crafts and pony rides. Adults will enjoy a host of seasonal entertainment and an opportunity to shop in the festival’s marketplace for one-of-a-kind holiday gifts. And they’ll be plenty of holiday fare at any of the festival food booths.

Leaving his red-nosed reindeer behind this year, Santa will arrive astride a bright red fire engine at 2:00 p.m. Once on the scene, he’ll put his busy elves to work taking holiday family photographs with his signature sleigh and one of his favorite reindeer.
Local entertainers will display their talents throughout the day on the festival’s main stage. Groups include the Colleyville Elementary Show Choir, Pat Riddle Dance Studio, O.C. Taylor Honor Choir, groups from Champion Cheer, God’s Country Kids, performers from the Double Take Dance Studio, and the CHHS Ovation Jazz Choir. Strolling carolers, the Back in Time Museum, a car show and a romping dog agility show will finish out the daytime offerings.

Santa will host the official tree lighting at 5:45 p.m. Then the headline entertainers—nationally recognized Amy & Annie—will take the stage for a rollicking holiday performance. The evening ends at 7:00 p.m. on a sky-high note—with a spectacular holiday-themed fireworks finale.
