December 14, 2005 GCISD students participating in IMAX® groundbreaking Twenty-two students from Grapevine-Colleyville ISD will round out the cast of one of the biggest cinematic experiences to come to North Texas. These students have been invited to participate in Thursday’s groundbreaking ceremony for the Metro Cinema/IMAX® Theater complex in Colleyville Town Center. They were selected based on their participation in the GCISD Video Festival, and represent last year’s video winners and this year’s winners of the logo/poster contest. In addition, the students will assist Dr. Kay Waggoner, GCISD superintendent, in accepting a $1,000 donation to the Festival. The donation is being given by the developer of the project, Hodges and Associates. “We are very excited to be a part of this event,” Waggoner said. “This theater will provide our students with many opportunities to learn about cinema and the film industry, and to showcase their wide range of talents.” The groundbreaking ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Colleyville Town Center, on the corner of Hall-Johnson Road and Colleyville Boulevard. It is hosted by the city of Colleyville, Metro Cinema and Melvin & Martindale, LTD. GCISD students participating in the event are: Naomi Sims of Cannon Elementary; Chance Lander of O.C. Taylor Elementary; Katie Naeve and Maddie Selinger, both of Grapevine Elementary; Andrew White of Cross Timbers Middle; Grace Donald, Amy Langston and Sally Ok, all of Heritage Middle; Derek Putlak, Travis Ball, Brandon Cherry, Catherine Peirce, Colleen Kyhl and Katie Lindley, all of Grapevine High; and Christopher Eckberg, Angela Fiorini, Derek Kelly, Kevin Laramore, Michelle Lu, Jorge Nuño, Steve Ok and Daniel Maitland, all of Colleyville Heritage High. Following the groundbreaking, the students will join other dignitaries at the Colleyville City Library for lunch and a viewing of last year’s winning videos from the GCISD Festival. This year’s winners of the logo/poster contest will also be on display. For more information about the GCISD Video Festival, visit online.
