Tarrant County DA's office
responds to Open Meetings Accusations by former mayoral
candidate
In an uncharacteristic
manner, the Tarrant County DA responded quickly to former
mayoral candidate Suzette Christopher's complaint against North
Richland Hills City Attorney George Staples. Christopher
had complained about the treatment of Ron West at a May 24, 2004
city council meeting (Click
Here).
Upon learning of the
DA's response, Christopher released the following statement,
"Though the District Attorney's Office stated no Open Meetings
Violation occurred - what did occur, as you can tell by reading the transcript, is appalling, unprofessional, and rude.
Though the laws of our government would not govern his behavior he
does work for the citizens of NRH and the citizens should not be
subjected to such behavior from our City Attorney. The city attorney's contract was recently renewed for another year with a vote
of 5 in favor and 2 against. His contract renewal shows support for
his behavior. How many incidents have to take place before the 5
Council Members stand up for what is right and good? We must speak
out as citizens. Let every one of us make known to our Council what
kind of City Attorney would command our respect and this will be one
very important step toward obtaining one."
