2004 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist Recognized at GCISD Board Meeting

Dr. Kevin Singer announced the district saw the second highest number of students in history achieve the high honor as National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists.  Singer said that less than 2% of students in the nation can qualify for the status.

In the Public Forum, Fiona Sigalla stepped down from the Trustee Dais to the public podium to read a statement.


Fiona Sigall speaks from the public podium saying her support "goes beyond any resolution."


Sigalla stated since she was not in attendance when the Board passed a Resolution in support of administration and teachers, she wanted to go on record. Sigalla said that her appreciation and support goes beyond any resolution that her support has been demonstrated by her votes in support of teachers, for example. All other speakers in the public forum spoke concerning the Gifted and Talented program cuts as defined in the proposed new budget for GCIDS. All speakers requested the Board of Trustees to reconsider potential budget cuts to the program. Speaking to the board were the following citizens:

As part of the Character Education program a number of students spoke to the Trustees about making a difference.
