Grapevine Teacher Nominated
Grapevine High School Junior English teacher, Janice Cook, has been
nominated for the 2004 Texas Exes Award for Outstanding High School
Teachers. Ten nominees will be selected from the state to receive the
Texas Exes Award for Outstanding High School Teachers. These honorees
will be invited to the University of Texas campus in February for an
awards ceremony. Grapevine High School will be informed in mid-December
if Mrs. Cook is one of the ten nominees. Grapevine High School Principal,
Mr. Dana Drew, recognizes and rewards the contributions that good
teachers, like Mrs. Cook, make to the school and the community. Being
nominated by the principal means being chosen to represent the entire
school, and this is quite an honor in itself!
History of the Award:
The Texas Exes and the College of Education at The University of Texas at
Austin annually recognize ten Texas high school teachers and two
elementary school teachers who are inspiringly supportive of their
students and who bring credit to the teaching profession. Since 1986,
they have awarded the Texas Excellence Awards for Outstanding Teachers to
179 teachers across the state. In addition, more than 2,800 teachers have
received local recognition. The awards are presented on the University of
Texas campus as the culmination of the 2-day Conference on Texas
Excellence in Education. Nominations for elementary school teacher awards
are solicited from current students in the College of Education.
Nomination for high school teachers come from their principals. |

Art
from Six GCISD Students Selected For Dallas Museum of Art
Display
The O'Donnell Foundation and Advanced Placement
Statergies sponsor an invitational art exhibit every year called
the Young Masters Invitational Exhibit which takes place at the Dallas
Museum of Art. Last year was the first time Grapevine High
School and Colleyville Heritage High School were invited to
participate and we had one student's work chosen for the exhibit.
This year the artwork of six students were chosen, three from each school.
From CHHS are Cassie Wright, Jake Constantine, and Michael
Haynes. From GHS are Jenny Singer, Adam Chamey and Kelly Bredon.
There are only 35 pieces of artwork in this show, so it is quite an honor to have
6 from GCISD. The exhibit will be at the Dallas Museum of Art from January 18-February
18. The opening of the exhibit is January 18 in the evening.
