Administrative staff appointments:

John Allison, formerly associate superintendent for education services at Shawnee Mission School District in Kansas, has been appointed to the newly-created position of deputy superintendent, educational services.

Dr. Mary Arthur has been named coordinator for the language arts program, and will support K-12 teachers, principals, and parents with instructional needs related to language arts. She previously was 9th grade Success Initiative specialist at GCISD.Steve Trachier was named director of athletics and activities. Most recently he has been principal at Grapevine Middle.

At the end of last year, Patti Davis was appointed executive director of administration. Her most recent position was as principal at Cannon Elementary.


Newly appointed principals include:

Cannon Elementary - Tim Sutton, formerly assistant principals at Cannon;
Grapevine Elementary - James Calvin, formerly principal of Prairie View Intermediate School in the Northwest ISD;
Heritage Elementary - Stacey Voigt, formerly assistant principal at Heritage Elementary;
O. C. Taylor Elementary - Angela Gray, formerly assistant principal at O.C. Taylor;
Grapevine Middle - Tim Hughes, formerly assistant principal at Grapevine Middle;
Heritage Middle - Dr. Jennifer Killian, formerly director of advanced academics, the gifted and talented program, career & technology education, social studies and textbooks.


Newly appointed assistant principals include:

Bransford Elementary - Allyson Berggren, formerly math specialty teacher with Highland Park ISD;
Bear Creek Elementary - Brooke Moose, formerly classroom teacher, special education teacher and, most recently, a reading specialist at Bear Creek;
Cannon Elementary - Claudia Conner, previously instructional specialist for GCISD's gifted and talented program;
Grapevine Elementary - Deonna Courtney, most recently been assistant principal at Atwood McDonald Elementary in Fort Worth ISD;
O.C. Taylor - Laura Landis, formerly second grade teacher and fourth grade teacher at Colleyville Elementary;
Grapevine Middle - John Valdez, has taught science and pre-AP science at Heritage Middle.

 

At its June 24 meeting, the GCISD Board of Trustees approved the following administrative appointments: Brooke Moose, Claudia Conner, Deonna Courtney, and Laura Landis, as elementary assistant principals; John Valdez, middle school assistant principal; and Mary Arthur, coordinator, Language Arts.

Brooke Moose, appointed as assistant principal at Bear Creek Elementary, has been with GCISD since 1986, as a classroom teacher, special education teacher and, most recently, a reading specialist at Bear Creek.  She earned a master’s of education degree at Texas Woman’s University in Denton and her Texas certifications include mid-management administrator. Moose was named Bear Creek 2002 Teacher of the Year, Cannon Elementary 1992 Teacher of the Year, and received the district’s Excellence in Education Award in 1999.

Claudia Conner, named assistant principal at Cannon Elementary, previously worked for the district as instructional specialist for the gifted and talented program. In the five years she has been at GCISD, Conner has also served as staff development presenter, providing campus and district staff development sessions for K-12 classroom teachers. She was selected to participate in Grapevine-Colleyville’s Administrator’s Leadership Academy 2002. She has also taught gifted and talented in Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD, and has been an elementary teacher in Fort Worth ISD; DeSoto, Kansas; and Lawrence, Kansas. Connor was an adjunct clinical instructor at the University of Kansas, where she supervised and mentored future classroom teachers. She earned a master’s degree in educational policy and leadership from the University of Kansas and holds a mid-management certification.

Deonna Courtney has been named assistant principal at Grapevine Elementary.  Courtney has most recently been assistant principal at Atwood McDonald Elementary in Fort Worth ISD. She also has served as administrative intern in Birdville ISD and was a classroom teacher for seven years. With a master’s of education from Texas Wesleyan University, Courtney is certified in mid-management.

Laura Landis, assistant principal at O.C. Taylor, has been employed by GCISD since 1992 as a second grade teacher and fourth grade teacher, both at Colleyville Elementary. With a master’s of education in education administration from the University of North Texas, Landis was named Colleyville Elementary 1996 Teacher of the Year, received the district’s Excellence in Education Award in 2000 and was awarded the GCISD Council of PTA Friend of Education Award in May 2002. Landis holds a certification in mid-management.

John Valdez, named assistant principal at Grapevine Middle, was hired by the district in 1995 and has taught science and pre-AP science at Heritage Middle. Currently pursuing his master’s of education degree from The University of Texas at Arlington, Valdez holds an administrative certification. During the 2001-02 school year at Heritage Middle, he served the campus and its staff as coordinator for discipline management, coordinator for facilities and maintenance, textbook custodian, residency verification custodian and instructional facilitator. In 2001, Valdez was given the Friend of Children Award by the GCISD Council of PTAs.

Dr. Mary Arthur has been named coordinator for the district’s Language Arts program, and will support K-12 teachers, principals, and parents with instructional needs related to language arts. Arthur has 14 years experience in education and for the last two years, she has been 9th grade Success Initiative specialist at GCISD. Prior to that she was a reading specialist at Grapevine Middle, an adjunct professor at the University of North Texas in Denton, and she has been a classroom teacher in several places, including Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, the Royal Air Force Lakenheath Schools in England and Del Rio, Texas. Arthur earned a doctor of education degree and a master’s in education from the University of North Texas.
