August 28, 2003 The MS Walk is a
great chance for communities to come together for a fun-filled event
while making a tremendous difference in the lives of those living with
multiple sclerosis. There are six routes to choose from in different
cities: Abilene, Weatherford, Vernon, Cleburne, Wichita Falls and
Southlake. The Southlake course will begin in the Southlake Town
Square at 10:00 a.m. Before you walk,
there are a few steps you should take.
Interested parties need to register for the walk. Registration
is available online at www.nctms.org or you can register at 9
a.m. the day of the race. Second, to walk you
must collect contributions. On average, walkers collect $160 each. Top
fundraisers win prizes including a vacation getaway.
You can turn in your contributions on the day of the race. To
be eligible for prizes your contributions must be turned in to the
National MS Society no later than two weeks after the event. Lastly, the event is
held rain or shine. Come out and experience the walk. Lace up your
walking shoes, grab your contribution forms and come enjoy a beautiful
day. The National Ms
Society is dedicated to ending the devastating effects of multiple
sclerosis. The money raised from the walk will help fund many local
programs including: counseling, therapeutic horseback riding,
equipment loans and self help groups. Multiple sclerosis
usually strikes adults in the prime of their lives. Most are diagnosed
between the ages of 20 and 50. It is a chronic disease of the central
nervous system affecting the brain and spinal cord. One new case of MS
is diagnosed every hour. It comes and goes with no pattern leaving
people to wonder if they will become paralyzed, blind or have trouble
walking. So, accept the challenge, support the mission and help make
the fight to end the devastating effects of MS a possibility. Click Here for more information on MS, or to register to walk.
