Doris
Day

The
reader may recall the star of movies like
"Pillow Talk", "Please Don't Eat
the Daisies" and "Calamity Jane",
along with the Oscar-winning
"Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will
Be)," which became her signature tune. Doris
Day was best known for her roles as a good-hearted
gal, with a bubbly personality and unshakeable
strong will. Julie Walker has a close physical
resemblance to the movie star and, if her role as
a new business owner is any indication, seems to
incorporate the other movie screen personality
traits of the move star as well. |

The mother of three
children, 6, 9 and 17 had been looking for a business when she ran
into a friend at NRH2O. They struck up a conversation and the
friend told her about Chef Judy Byrd of Fort Worth and her new
concept called Super Suppers. Julie decided to visit the
concept store in Grapevine and learned that there were plans to
franchise. Julie said, "the minute I went into the
store, I decided I was in; it fit what I wanted to do."
Since the franchise efforts were in the earliest stages, Julie was
left with the daunting task of doing much of the original business
plan on her own. She prepared a business plan, made a lot of
marketing assumptions and struck looking for a loan to get started. She was turned down twice, however
like the Day characters, she would not be deterred. Julie
found a bank that would fund her store in Keller and began
training, along with 7 day work weeks. In May, 2005, Super
Suppers Keller opened under the ownership of Julie Walker.

Customers
have the option to pick up the frozen meals, ready for the
oven, or prepare the meals fresh based on the preset
ingredients. |
Following her own
marketing strategy, before starting her business, Julie began
visiting groups like the Mothers of Preschoolers, local churches
and PTA meetings. She carried along an explanatory CD that emphasized
the advantages of nutritional meals, time savings and the ability
to have the family actually sit down together at mealtime.

Super Suppers
is opened Mon, 9-2 Tues, 9-2 and 3-6... Wed. 11:00 -6:30, Thurs. 9-2 and 4-7 .. and every other

Julie
demonstrates the ease of having all the necessary
ingredients at your finger tips to put together a great
meal to take home and immediately put in the oven. The
meals are designed to serve 6 people, however, according
to Julie, the portions are so large that many freeze the
prepared meals for later and get 12 servings. |
