This Colleyville Vet has gone mobile and high tech

Ready Vet Go

Taking care of the family pet just became a lot easier for families always on the go.  The hassle of getting the family pet into the car and hauling the pet to the vet can be a thing of the past with the "Ready Vet Go" concept of Dr. Wes Alger of Colleyville.

Dr. Alger has operated a traditional clinic in the Irving area for years, however first became interested in the mobile vet approach when he saw one of the high tech vans at a trade show.

Ready Vet Go is a 27 foot Mobile Pet Hospital providing veterinary care for your pet at your home or office. The Mobile Pet Hospital is fully equipped with an electric lift exam/treatment table, Idexx laboratory capable of performing blood counts and blood chemistries, high frequency x ray machine, digital x ray processing, surgical suite with Isoflurane inhalation gas anesthesia and waste gas scavenger, kennels for hospitalization, refrigerator, electric generator, air conditioning and heating, and hot and cold running water.

The service is truly a self-contained Mobile Pet Hospital in which providing services such as annual physicals, vaccinations, wellness exams, laboratory profiles and complete blood counts, radiographs, teeth cleanings and surgery. Every procedure performed at the doctor's traditional facility can be performed in the mobile hospital.

In only a few weeks, Dr. Alger reports that he has seen over 50 individual clients and 100 individual patients including repeat visits. The response has been very positive.

Dr. Alger told LNO some of the reasons his clients have told him they like the idea; Alger said, "They include saving the client time by eliminating drive time, eliminating pet accidents in their vehicle, reducing stress on the client and pet, and continuing one on one personal contact with veterinarian. This service is particularly well suited for clients with multiple pets, clients working from home, clients with pets that are difficult to handle, clients staying at home tending to children or senior adults requiring constant supervision and anyone else wanting to simplify their life by bringing “their vet to their pet!” We are nearing the end of our second month and we feel we are improving our service with the mobile veterinary hospital. As we move forward, we will be adding days to our mobile schedule to accommodate those clients wanting to use this service."

Dr. Alger is originally from Amarillo, but attended high school Irving and graduated from Texas A&M.  He moved to Grapevine in 1983 and to Colleyville in 1990.  He and his wife Teresa have two daughters, both graduated from Grapevine High School.  Amanda has already graduated from Texas A&M in 2006 and Audra is currently attended A&M.

He is a Member of American Veterinary Medical Association, Texas Veterinary Medical Association, Dallas County Veterinary Medical Association and Tarrant County Veterinary Medical Association. His practice includes small animals like dogs and cats. Pocket pets like rabbits, gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs and ferrets. Dr. Alger said he also has experience with pot belly pigs.

Named one of the best vets in Dallas in the June 2004 issue of D Magazine, Mark Francis Fellow and will be awarded Irving Park and Recreation Super Star Award in December in recognition of support of programs and special events at the Heritage Senior Center.

Alger was recently interviewed on Fox 4 and Irving Community Television Network concerning his treatment of a severely injured dog abandoned at the DFW Humane Society in Irving.
