City Recognized For Excellent Financial Reporting
For the 22nd consecutive year, the City of North Richland Hills has received a “Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting” from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). This is a national award recognizing conformance with the highest standards for preparation of state and local government financial reports. The GFOA indicates that of the nearly 1,200 municipalities in the State of Texas, 162 or 14% received the award. Of the nearly 36,000 cities in the United States, 1,668 or 5% received the award.
The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program was established by GFOA in 1945 to encourage all government units to prepare and publish an easily readable and understandable comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) covering all funds and financial transactions of the government during the fiscal year. The GFOA believes governments have a special responsibility to provide the public with a fair presentation of their financial affairs.
Fred Werner, past president of the Government Finance Officers Association of Texas, presented the “Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting” during the Monday, February 27, NRH City Council Meeting.
Several North Richland Hills City Council Members expressed their pleasure upon receiving this award.
“Fiscal responsibility is a priority in our City and this recognition from the Government Finance Officers Association is evidence of that,” said Mayor Oscar Trevino. “We appreciate the Finance and Accounting Staff for maintaining high standards and thank all of our staff for their continued efforts to operate in a fiscally responsible way.”
