Crime and Police Reports in Colleyville

They don't teach this stuff at the Police Academy!

3/21/08  Animal Rescue at 6605 Westcoat Drive.  Officer Sharon Coleman observed a brown heifer who appeared in distress in the pasture.  Upon closer inspection, she believed the cow was trying to deliver a calf but the delivery did not "look right".  Officer Coleman contacted her Sergeant, Billy McCullough, who is well versed as a farm and ranch man.  Sgt. McCullough along with Officer Gwen Parker quickly responded to the scene.

Officer Parker was dispatched to locate and bring back the heifer's owner, Douglas Clark, 86, who also owns the property.  Sgt. McCullough determined that the heifer was probably a yearling herself and too young to manage the breech birth in progress without human intervention.  Sgt. McCullough coached Officer Coleman along while she reached in and strenuously dislodged the stillborn bull calf free from the birth canal, thereby saving the heifer's life.

It is ironic sometimes how things work out - or don’t work out. I think sometimes you just have to be careful what you say, and probably how often you say it too.
Take Jerome for instance. Now, from all we could find out, here was one rather dedicated man. He believed in what he was saying and doing and in his earnest effort, he did a lot of good.

You may not remember Jerome, but he changed a lot of lives. A native New Yorker and son of a local neighborhood grocer, Jerome developed, and maintained throughout his life, an intense interest in promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. His main thrust, organically grown foods, actually came from his reading the works of a Mr. Albert Howard.

On Television somewhere every night!
Wesley was the rarest of men.  He was a creative fellow, that’s for sure - a dreamer.  But he also had a strong practical streak.  Probably got that from his father, the police officer.  Growing up Wes was fascinated by airplanes and the future of aviation.  He was determined to make his living from flying, and he did.  But not like you might expect.

He turned out to be quite a pilot.  While with the Army Air Corps in World War II he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service at Guadalcanal.  He came home a hero, but so did a lot of men and women.  As Wes would say, “They were all heroes.”  I’d have to agree.

Child Safety Month
by State Representative Vicki Truitt
April is Child Safety Month in Texas. We as fellow Texans need to act to ensure the safety of our children. First it’s important to better understand the problem. Where and when are our kids most vulnerable?

Motor vehicle injuries are the leading cause of death among children. Securing our kids in age- and size-appropriate restraint systems can reduce serious and fatal injuries by more than half.

On Thanksgiving Day, 2006, Fort Worth firefighter Jeannie Wells buckled her three children in the car. She felt secure about their safety. Micah, 8, Carter, 7, and Codi, 6, were buckled in with adult seat belts, well within the requirements of Texas law at the time. Unfortunately, this wouldn’t be enough to protect the Wells’ children.
