3/21/08 Animal Rescue
at 6605 Westcoat Drive.
Officer Sharon Coleman
observed a brown heifer
who appeared in distress
in the pasture. Upon
closer inspection, she
believed the cow was
trying to deliver a calf
but the delivery did not
"look right". Officer
Coleman contacted her
Sergeant, Billy
McCullough, who is well
versed as a farm and
ranch man. Sgt.
McCullough along
with Officer Gwen Parker
quickly responded to the
scene.
Officer Parker was
dispatched to locate and
bring back the heifer's
owner, Douglas Clark,
86, who also owns the
property. Sgt.
McCullough determined
that the heifer was
probably a yearling
herself and too young to
manage the breech birth
in progress without
human intervention.
Sgt. McCullough coached
Officer Coleman along
while she reached in and
strenuously
dislodged the stillborn
bull calf free from the
birth canal, thereby
saving the heifer's
life.
