April 13, 2008, North Richland Hills, Texas
North Richland Hills Parks and Recreation will host a Junior Olympic Local Basketball Competition on Sunday, April 20 at the NRH Recreation Center.

Jr. Olympic Basketball Skills Competition is a FREE national grassroots skills competition that provides both, boys and girls ages 8 to 13, the opportunity to showcase their athletic abilities in basketball. Olympic Skills Competition encourages youth participation in sport and emphasizes fair and friendly competition. Youngsters can advance through three (3) levels of competition, including Local, Regional and the National Finals.

The Junior Olympic Local Basketball Competition will be held Sunday, April 20 at the NRH Recreation Center located at 6720 NE Loop 820. Preregistration is preferred, or onsite registration will be accepted from 12:30-1:00 p.m. and the contest will begin at 1:30 p.m. Please call 817.427.6600 for more information or register in person at the NRH Recreation Center.

Procedure for Junior Olympic Basketball Competition:
• Each participant competes one at a time against the clock.
• Participants may begin from any spot and may shoot in any order.
• Once a shot is taken, the participant must shoot from a different spot (a participant
may not take consecutive shots from the same spot, make or miss).
• Participants have 45 seconds to score as many points as possible from shooting spots.
• The stopwatch will start when the participant releases the ball for his/her first shot.
• Participants must retrieve their own rebounds. The second ball may be used as a
“safety” ball, instead of retrieving a rebound (i.e. if a rebound bounces far away, the
participant may use the second ball).
• Each time a shot is made, the participant receives a designated point value.
• After the 45 seconds, each participant will shoot two (2) free-throws, worth 3 points each.
• Participant attempt the two (2) free-throws with both feet behind the free-throw
line as if in a normal game.
• After the free-throws, each participant's shots made will be recorded to determine a
final score.
• ALL ages and genders will shoot from the same designated free throw line.
