Storm causes major damage at Dawson Middle School
The Carroll School Board called an emergency
meeting April 10 to authorize campus repairs above
the $25,000 state bidding threshold. The repairs are
necessary following an early morning storm this week
causing significant damage at Dawson Middle School.
School officials believe the damage at the campus
was caused by an unconfirmed tornado or extremely
strong straight winds.
The Board called the meeting at 1 p.m. Thursday so
Trustees could authorize the Administration to move
forward with repairs to the roof, HVAC rooftop units
and to cap a gas line. Dawson is operating on a
regular class schedule, but as a precaution, the gas
was turned off at that campus first thing Thursday
morning. Although damage estimates are still being
assessed, the total will easily exceed the
district's $100,000 insurance deductible. Items that
do not pose an imminent need will be brought back to
the Board for consideration at a future meeting. The
Eubanks and Old Union campuses sustained minor
damage as well.
