New North Richland Hills Public Library Opened Saturday

The City of North Richland Hills celebrated the grand opening of the new North Richland Hills Public Library at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 19.

The new $10.2 million facility is located at 9015 Grand Avenue, near The Venue at Home Town and Walker Creek Elementary School. It is the first freestanding facility built in North Richland Hills solely for library services. In the past, the NRH Public Library has been located in donated retail space, at City Hall and in a renovated church building.

Features of the new library include:

· 49,000 square feet of finished space and 10,000 square feet of shell space for future expansion;

· A dynamic children’s area with space for story times;

· Small business assistance office;

· Career center for job seekers;

· 6 study rooms;

· 2 public meeting rooms;

· Local history room;

· A café, proudly serving Starbucks coffee.

· New Radio Frequency Identification Technology, also known as RFID, to speed up the process of checking out books and tracking library inventory;

· 75 public computers for searching the library catalogs and accessing the internet;

· Free wireless internet service.

The library collection includes approximately 172,000 volumes. The library has more than 58,000 registered borrowers.

Saturday’s grand opening events will include a dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting starting at 10 a.m. The ceremony will include remarks from North Richland Hills Mayor Oscar Trevino, Congressman Michael Burgess and others. Immediately following the ribbon cutting the library will be open for service.

The Bows & Strings Quartet representing the Northeast Orchestra will perform on the second floor of the library from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Children’s story times will be held at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and a chess club demonstration will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the children’s library.

The library will remain open on Saturday until 5 p.m. The following regular library hours will begin on Monday, April 21:

Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday, closed.
