Sgt. Hunter made contact with the suspect, who gave Sgt. Hunter a false name and became increasingly evasive. The other officer went to the passenger door to block a possible escape route. At this time, the suspect suddenly opened fire, fatally wounding Sgt. Hunter. The other officer immediately checked on Sgt. Hunter and called for assistance. The suspect then shot at that officer, who survived. The officer returned fire and killed the suspect. Sgt. Hunter had served with the Grand Prairie Police Department for 29 years, 4 months and 9 days. He is survived by his wife, Denise, their daughter Erin, and three adult children. |
