Police Target Seatbelt Violators Under DPS Grant
The North Richland Hills Police Department will be
targeting individuals who fail to wear their
seatbelts. Beginning on February 22, 2010 this
Department will be joining other state and local law
enforcement agencies in stepping up seat belt
enforcement. A grant from the Texas Department of
Transportation provides funds that allow the
department to increase enforcement efforts with the
program commonly known as “Click it or Ticket”.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration, teenage drivers and passengers are
still one of the least likely groups to buckle up.
In Texas, 47 percent of 371 teen occupants killed in
motor vehicle crashes during 2008 were unrestrained
at the time of the fatal crash. In an effort to
insure the safest roadways, North Richland Hills
officers are going to be conducting grant funded
seatbelt details and taking appropriate enforcement
measures.
To help save lives on Texas roadways, were going to
make sure both teens and adults understand that that
not wearing your seatbelt could cost you not only a
ticket, but also your life.
