NRH Fire Chief Announces Retirement
by
Nelson Thibodeaux
North Richland Hills Fire Chief Andy Jones
has announced that he is retiring from the
department, effective May 4, 2012. Chief
Jones began his career in fire service more
than 38 years ago and has served as chief of
the North Richland Hills Fire Department
since January 1998.
“Chief Jones has facilitated many positive
changes for the Fire Department over the
past 14 years and his leadership will be
missed,” said City Manager Mark Hindman. “We
wish him well in his retirement.”
Under Jones’ leadership, new fire stations,
equipment, employees and programs were added
to keep pace with the growing community. The
department improved its Insurance Services
Office Property Protection Classification
from a “4” to a “2”, which benefited the
community through savings on insurance
premiums. The department also received
numerous awards and honors from the Texas
Fire Chiefs Association and the
International Association of Fire Chiefs,
including the prestigious Fire Service Award
for Excellence.
Chief Jones said it has been privilege and
pleasure to serve as North Richland Hills
Fire Chief for the last 14 years.
“I have worked with the finest group of men
and women in the fire service. Together, we
have been able to accomplish much and
improve fire and life safety in North
Richland Hills,” he said. “I offer my best
wishes for the continued success and drive
for excellence for the City of North
Richland Hills and the best Fire Department
in the country.”
The City of North Richland Hills will begin
the process of searching for a new fire
chief this Spring.
More information about Chief Jones’ career
can be found on the city’s website.
