HUNDREDS ATTEND MEMORIAL DAY SERVICES AT BLUEBONNET HILLS

Over 500 people gathered at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park Monday, May 27, to honor those who gave their lives in the service of their country.  Randy Stroud, General Manager of Bluebonnet, welcomed those present following the presentation of the American flag during a performance by Texas Skydive.  The Moslah Shrine Band provided music for the event.

COLLEYVILLE TO DEDICATE WORLD WAR II MEMORIAL

The marker dedication for Colleyville’s World War II memorial has been scheduled for Saturday, June 8, 2002 at 9:00 a.m.  The date was selected to coincide with the annual Pleasant Run School reunion.

The Village at Colleyville provided the location for the markers, which is located at the entrance to the Village at the intersection of Colleyville’s new Main Street and Pleasant Run Road.  Additional information about the memorial can be obtained from Jimmy Reynolds at 817-485-7738 or Mike Patterson at 817-283-2658.

The Pleasant Run School Reunion will be held at the Colleyville Community Center from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Information about the reunion can be obtained from Steve or Joy Trent at 817-379-5386.

BOOK COLLECTION FOR JUVENILE DIABETES RESEARCH FOUNDATION

Colleyville Woman's Club is, once again this year, collecting children's books for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (J.D.R.F.) Donated books are used to make and enhance children's gift baskets for the organization's annual fundraiser, "The Barbecue at the Ballpark". The baskets are part of the children's section of the auction.

Colleyville BBQ Cook Off Sponsoring the Special Olympics

The cook off will start off Saturday May 4th at around 10am and will last as long as there is food and people.  This years cook off is a continuation of a tradition that stopped about 7 years ago.  With 70 spots marked and an expectation of about 35 to 40 different cookers this year should be a good start to what stopped years ago.

Bonnie Carroll of Colleyville received the Northeast Tarrant County Award in Recognition of Service today.  The 2002 Gertrude Tarpley Woman of the Year award recognizes the individual most responsible for leadership in bringing others into volunteerism.

Carroll Middle School teacher, Chris Hutchison, was hired as a soloist by the Texas Christian University Choir.

The Bay View Club met Wednesday, February 13, 2002 at the Trophy Club Home of Mrs. Cyrus Holley.  Mr. and Mrs. Burl Gilliam presented a program titled “South Africa Total Eclipse of the Sun” based on their July 2001 trip to Zambia.  While in Africa they also visited Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and Johannesburg.

book and author committee generates more than $20,000 for local libraries

 

A joint effort on behalf of local libraries by the Book and Author committee generated more than $20,000. The libraries in Colleyville, Grapevine and Southlake each received a check for $7,170.

The Waltz Across Texas benefiting the Northeast Tarrant County Unit of the American Cancer Society was held at Austin Ranch Saturday February 9th.

Second Annual Doug Johnson Hoop Night

 


Doug Johnson

Doug Johnson at the age of 37 lost his fight with cancer on December 19, 2000.  He left behind a wife and three small boys.  His friends established "Hoop Night". It is a benefit whose proceeds go to help the American Cancer Society.

Colleyville Mayor Donna Arp received the Colleyville Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2001 Citizen of the Year award at the annual awards luncheon Thursday, January 24, 2002.  Ginny Tigue, recipient of last year’s award, made the presentation.  The luncheon was held at the Hilton DFW  Lakes Executive Conference Center.

"A FISHERMAN AND HIS WIFE"

 

On Saturday, January 19, 2002 at 7:00 PM, The Missoula Children's Theatre International Tour Project will bring "A Fisherman and His Wife" to Colleyville Elementary school.  Approximately 100 children auditioned for the 40 parts that were available.

Tracy and Rebecca Miller stopped by for a late lunch at Goldie's on Monday. Rebecca is a long time Colleyville resident. Mike Snyder, News and Scott Murray, Sports at NBC Channel 5 are also among some of the celebrity residents of Colleyville.  Rebecca joined the NBC 5 Weather Team in 1991. She can also be heard on WBAP 

NewsTalk 820 AM throughout the morning and afternoon and on KSCS 96.3 FM weekly afternoons. A graduate of Texas A&M university with a degree in atmospheric physics, Rebecca worked as a meteorologist at WGXA in Macon, Georgia, The Weather Channel in Atlanta and WXIA-TV (NBC) in Atlanta. She has received three Emmy nominations for weather documentaries and was voted Outstanding Television Personality in 1995.

Lewisville Morning Rotary Club Lends a Helping Hand at the CCA Pantry

Tom Atchinson, Ed and Diana Beck, Dean Davis, Leon Gonyo, Frank Hebb, Ray Irwin, Sharon Kellner, and her sons Chris, Pete & Mike worked at the CCA Pantry on Saturday, December 22nd.  There was a total of 153 citizens that were assisted.

After 29 years of Colleyville fire fighting, Red Bailey, Fire Marshall spent his last day of active duty today.

A framed hand sketch of the Fire Marshall and firemen was dedicated by Raven Thibodeaux to be hung in the fire station in the honor of the long time Fire Marshall.

Luxury Hotel in Village Wants $2 Million to Come to Colleyville

 

The prospective hotel builder presented city officials with a two page list of incentives in October. Included are waiver of fees, tax rebates, compensation for employee training, guaranteed usage and a "housekeeping" contract for city hall and the library. The city 

currently has no written incentive policy, as required by state law, and has not considered similar incentives in the past.  For details, click on headlines.

Colleyville Chamber Golf Ball Drop

 

The air drop didn't pan out and the cherry picker didn't show, so the Chamber Golf Drop was from the top of an SUV. Golf balls with numbers were purchased from the Chamber and dropped out of a bucket.  The first ball in wins. The winning golf ball and winner of $500 was Bonnie O'Rourke.

911 ANGEL CONVOY LEAVES FOR NEW YORK

After the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, singer/songwriter, Becky James, and her fiancé, co-songwriter, John Taylor, were so moved that they rewrote the lyrics to Sarah McLachlan's 1997 hit, "Angel," as a tribute to the victims, and to those who lost friends and loved ones on that sad day.
