PRESS RELEASE

Colleyville Implements Voluntary Water Conservation

July 23, 2001

As of September 1, 1999, state law required all Texas Cities to adopt a "Drought Contingency Plan". The Drought Contingency Plan for the City of Colleyville was adopted by resolution R-99-1958 on October 19, 1999. This plan is intended to protect the Colleyville Water Supply System during emergency situations of low supply and high demand.

The Colleyville water distribution system has experienced very high water consumption resulting in extremely low water levels in storage tanks and low pressure in the system. This can only be attributed to a majority of the automatic sprinkler/irrigation systems being set to run on Monday and Wednesday mornings, as this phenomenon only occurs during the hot dry months of the year.

To avoid the necessity of mandatory conservation measures, the following five-daily schedule for landscape watering based on the last digit of the address is requested for Voluntary practice:

Automatic systems timers should be set to water only every fifth day. Water only between the hours of 10:00 pm and 6:00 am. Daylight watering causes more water to be wasted due to evaporation.
