Coplen's Answers
1. At the present time significant policy
differences don't seem to be present. The Board of
Trustees is just that --'a board' -- and it should come
to a consensus as to changes or additions to
policies. It is not an individual policy that would be
implemented. This is why having a variety of personal
experience and backgrounds on the Board of Trustees is
valuable and important-- so that different views may be
represented in the policy-making process for the
district.
2. My background and understanding are
very broad in GCISD. When making a decision that would
affect our students, teachers or district personnel, or
the community, my prior experience and involvement in
the following areas will prove valuable in the Board's
decision-making process. These five areas are: (1) my 5
children have attended 7 schools in the district
including both high schools and I have lived in both
Grapevine and Colleyville; (2) I have served on several
district committees, including fine arts, curriculum
(block scheduling), principal selection etc; (3) I have
served on athletic, band and cheerleading booster clubs,
(4) I have served as PTSA President and devoted 11 years
to volunteering in the district, including outdoor
classroom development and construction, senior plaza
design and development, fine arts committees etc; (6)
substitute teaching for several years and working with
administration and facility personal among others.
3. I have no questions for Mr. Warner. I
believe that my record of what I have done for the youth
of GCISD speaks for itself.

Warner Answers
1.
I am
not aware of any major policy differences between myself
and Ms. Coplen. I
would like to state that it will be my policy to represent
all citizens in the district equally and that I have no
special interest groups to which I am bound.
I will approach my service on the Board of Trustees
independently and with the education and well being of the
children in the GCISD as my primary focus.
I will maintain an open mind and work with other
board members to develop effective policies and procedures
that will lead to the improved education of our children
in a fiscally responsible manner.
2.
I don’t believe that it is policy differences
that will make either Ms Coplen or myself the better
trustee. It
is the difference in our background that does this.
Both of us have literally thousands of hours of
service to our community and school districts. I am very proud of that fact, and I am sure Ms Coplen is as
well. It
would be difficult for anyone to question our dedication
and commitment to the children in the communities we have
served. However,
in addition to that, I have a Masters Degree in Business
and almost thirty years of progressively more responsible
business experience in the areas of budgeting, budget
analysis, planning, goal setting and forecasting that I
believe would be invaluable to the school board.
This is especially critical at this juncture as we
face the difficult problems presented to us by the Robin
Hood laws, the desire to move the academic performance of
our students to the next level, keep our children safe in
their learning environment and the wish to restore the
trust of the community we serve in the Board of Trustees.
3.
I don’t have any questions for Ms Coplen.
I will leave it up to the voters to ask questions
and decide who has the most appropriate background
qualifying
them for service on the GCISD Board of Trustees.
