COLLEYVILLE CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP
CELEBRATES NEW NAME, NEW LOOK …..by
Linda Newton
Colleyville Christian Fellowship, formerly Metroplex
Covenant Church, recently celebrated the renovation of their facilities
and name change with an open house attended by area officials, former
pastors and other visitors. The changes were prompted in part by a
survey conducted among members and the church leadership last year. The
survey surprised the church leaders when it revealed that the
congregation appeared to have some different thoughts about the church's
position and direction. In a move somewhat unusual for a church or
organization, the official leadership of the congregation elected to
step back for six months and allow a committee of approximately 25 to 30
people to re-assess the church's position and recommend changes. The
committee was comprised of volunteer leaders, much like the mid-level
management tier in a corporate structure.

One of the first recommendations made by the committee
was to change the name of the church to Colleyville Christian Fellowship
to more accurately reflect their position in the community. This
recommendation was unanimously approved. Another outcome of this group's
work was the renovation of their facilities on Glade Road. The structure
was built in 1988 to serve as a multi-purpose building, and members felt
it was time to create a more formal atmosphere for their worship
services. The church originally purchased 15 acres on Roberts Road in
1986. The only structure on the site at that time was an old barn, which
was later renovated. Later a house, which ultimately became the church
office, situated on 10 acres just west of the site was added to the
campus. The current structure was built in 1988. Recently the house and
10 acres were sold, enabling the church to pay off the debt on the
building and remaining property.
Originally the congregation was composed of cell
groups meeting weekly in homes and coming together once a month as a
whole. Original members of the church had come to Texas from various
geographic locations in order to start a fellowship here. They began The
Oaks School, a private school for grades K - 9, to provide Christian
education for member's children. The school operated in Euless for ten
years prior to closing in 1991. Ultimately the church grew to number
approximately 1,000 members and planted churches in Denver, Colorado,
Washington, D.C., Florida and Southlake.
The current pastor, Reverend Carter Foster, has been
senior pastor since 1990. He was on staff for five years prior to moving
to Denver for two years with his wife, Ann, to start the church there.
According to Reverend Foster, "The church's mission is to disciple
believers, create a sense of community among members, and help
individuals develop close relationships with the Lord and each
other." Carter and Ann Foster believe in being involved in the
community. They participate in community events and activities and offer
their building for use by others needing a place to meet. The facilities
are used by the Colleyville Area Chamber of Commerce monthly for
luncheons, by GRACE for their annual meeting and banquet, and by other
city and civic organizations. CCF also hosts a monthly gathering of area
ministers where they share news and information and minister to each
other.
Reverend Foster has also served as chair of the city's
Faith Based Leadership Team.
Colleyville Christian Fellowship has a strong
commitment to missions as well. "Our church currently sponsors
fourteen people who have grown up in our church as missionaries to a
variety of locations, including the Congo and Kenya" Reverend
Foster proudly states. Other areas of ministry at CCF include men and
women's ministries, children and youth, music, prayer, cell groups and
outreach. They also offer the Alpha program for individuals wishing to
find out more about the Christian faith. The church is open every Monday
through Saturday morning from 6:00 - 7:00 a.m. for prayer for anyone who
wishes to participate. More information can be obtained from their
website, www.ccfdfw.com.
