Colleyville Pee Wee Football Wrap Up

Close to 200 young football players began a quest for a championship in late June. Boy’s ages 5-12 started their quest with a one-week camp at the end of June. The boys were given basic instructions during grass drills starting in early August.

The real work began in earnest with the pads in the middle of August. Colleyville had 10 teams: one Flag ages 5 and 6, three Bantams ages 7 and 8, three Juniors ages 9 and 10, and three Seniors ages 11 and 12. Each team has a volunteer “dad” serving as a head coach and several “dads” assisting the head coach. Volunteer girls also form cheerleading squads for the teams. A team mom serves as a coordinator for “mom” activities.

The season began in early September with games against Keller, Grapevine, Southlake and Coppell.

The season concluded the week of 15 Nov 2003 crowning FOUR Super Bowl champions from the ten Colleyville teams.

Coach Brent Parker led the Bantam Blues on a five game winning streak for a 26-point Championship victory.

Coach Pete Thomas led the Bantam Gold on a last play defensive stop winning their championship.
Correction: When first posted this report said Coach Thomas led the "White" team to victory, instead of "Gold" as now shown.

Coach Mark Webb’s team won 4 of the last 5, including erasing a 14-point deficit for the Junior Gold’s Championship.

Coach McKenzie led the Colleyville Senior White team on a nine game winning streak including a shut out for a Championship.

Correction:
Jim Calvert was the coach of Colleyville Senior White team, not  Mr. Mckenzie.  I had the pleasure of being an assistant coach with Jim. After losing our first game , we revamped our defense, and won 9 in a row with 7 shutouts.  We beat the team we lost to, (Keller Longhorns) in the playoffs and then beat the Grapevine Colts 32-0 to win the "A" Superbowl.
Jim deserves the recognition as does our great team of young men.

Thank you,
Mike Burroughs
