GCISD Press Release - Board to Set Tax Rate;
Provide at Least a 4% Pay Increase

The GCISD Board of Trustees has announced its intention to adopt a tax rate with a 0-cent increase in the Maintenance and Operations portion to fund the 2001-2002 budget. A 3.45-cent increase in the debt service tax rate is being recommended on the Interest and Sinking portion of the rate to service the $134 million bond voters approved in 1998.

Verizon Wireless Plans Control Center Groundbreaking

Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless provider, will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at the site of its new $20 million control center in Southlake, near the intersection of Dove Road and Kirkwood Boulevard. Completion of the first construction phase is expected to be in Fall 2002.

Colleyville Reschedules Council Meeting to Wednesday, August 8

The first regular council meeting of August was rescheduled at the July 17 meeting.  It will be Wednesday, August 8.  The executive session will convene at 6:45 p.m.  Among items to be discussed during this time are the evaluation of the Interim City Manager and the City Manager Executive Search.  It was announced last week that William H. Lindley of DeSoto had been offered the City Manager position.

Middle School Students within District 
May Request Transfer to New GMS

A new state-of-the-art Grapevine Middle School opens with the 2001-02 school year and the much-larger building offers the opportunity for students from other middle schools within GCISD to apply to attend this new school. Under GCISD Board Policy FDB (Local), Requests for Student Transfers are allowed under certain criteria. “Available capacity at the requested campus” is one such Board-approved criterion.

Colleyville City Council members selected a new city manager late Tuesday evening.  He is William H. Lindley, Assistant City Manager for the city of DeSoto, Texas. Lindley spent his 18 year career in the Texas cities of Gladewater, Rusk, Cedar Hill, and DeSoto.  The other two finalists were from out of state.
