Raylene Renfrow, executive director of Technology Services, says that district staff and patrons have been collaborating to make technology more meaningful in the classroom and to provide additional training for teachers.

Investigations continue into cause of illnesses at Grapevine High

The Tarrant County Public Health Department is continuing investigations into what caused stomach illnesses by students and staff at Grapevine High School earlier this week, but preliminary reports show no correlation to food served at school.

P&Z approved developer Raman Chandler's Plat for Westgate Villas, although city staff recommended denial on technical non-compliance.

The plat reflects residential lots with an average size of less than 7,000 sq ft with a density of 3.59 homes per acre while the city land development code calls for 16,000 sq ft and 1.8 per acre.

PRESS RELEASE FROM GRAPEVINE HIGH SCHOOL

At 7 a.m. this morning, staff members entering Grapevine High School noticed a very strong gasoline smell in the main hallway. The fire department was called and the building evacuated immediately.

Fire officials determined that gasoline had been poured underneath an outside door and had penetrated a small area of carpet in the hallway. At approximately 8 a.m., students and staff members were allowed into Gym 1 while the carpet was removed.

At 8:45 a.m., the Fire Department released the GHS building for students and staff to enter.

Gymnastics teams from Grapevine High School and Colleyville Heritage High School opened their season Friday with an excellent performance.  Led by Ashley and Stephanie Rogus, the CHHS women’s team finished in second place of seven teams competing.  Ashley finished second in the combined all-around events while twin sister

2002 OLYMPICS TORCH RELAY INCLUDES THREE TEACHERS AND STUDENT FROM GCISD

GCISD has three teachers and one student who were selected to participate in the 2002 Olympics Torch Relay as it passes through DFW today, December 12. Stephanie Williams, 8th grader at Heritage Middle, and teachers, Sherri Steward, Grapevine High, Al Kaufmann, Bransford Elementary, and Cynnara Biven, Silver Lake Elementary (support runner).

Torchbearers were nominated by family members, friends or coworkers by the submission of a 50-100 word essay describing how the nominee embodies the Olympic spirit. A total of 7,200 torchbearers were selected to carry the Olympic Flame on its 65-day, 13,500 mile journey from Atlanta to Salt Lake City. Torchbearers were selected from more than 210,000 nominees.

Their torchbearing times are:
     Stephanie - 9:15 a.m.
     Al - 10:16 a.m.
     Sherri - 1:37 p.m.

ESTIMATED CROWD OF 5,000 ATTEND 3RD ANNUAL CELEBRATE COLLEYVILLE

A crowd estimated to exceed 5,000 attended the third annual Celebrate Colleyville at City Park.  The activities included a Patriotic Tribute to Firefighters and Police Officers and ended with a spectacular fireworks show.

The third annual Celebrate Colleyville enjoyed mild temperatures and a great crowd.  The event concept was proposed in 1998 by Councilman Nelson Thibodeaux. The event is the only city-wide program and has been possible by the support of the Colleyville City Council, the City Staff and volunteers.  The event has grown each year and expects to become a significant contributor to future seasonal promotions for the Village of Colleyville.

Dixie Cawthorne, Marketing Director for the City of Colleyville coordinated this year's successful event.
