World War II veterans may receive long-deserved high school diplomas Veterans of World War II who were unable to receive high school diplomas because they served in the war may now receive a high school diploma from the high school from which they would have graduated.

The Colleyville Lions Club Donates 
to New York Fireman

The Colleyville Lion's Club announced at the weekly Friday meeting that the club donated $2,000 to the New York Fireman's fund.  The funds were primarily raised internally amongst the members at the previous week's meeting.  The club meets each Friday morning at 6:45 am at the Colleyville Community Center.

The Bay View Club held their first meeting of the year at the newly renovated Palace Theatre in Grapevine on Wednesday, September 12.  Lunch was served in the Weems Alley room and was followed by a tour of the facilities led by Peggy Riddle, Historic Preservation Manager for the City of Grapevine.  The meeting was hosted by Margaret Wood, Shirley Holley and Peggy Smith.

CMS STUDENTS RAISE OVER $15,000 FOR RED CROSS

Colleyville Middle School held a Pep Rally on Friday, September 14 at 2:30 to present a check to Dr. Kevin Singer, Superintendent of GCISD.  Principal Cantrell stated, "They (the students) approached me and said do you think we can set a goal of $5,000

DONOR CAPACITY REACHED BY 10:00 A.M. AT SOUTHLAKE WOMEN'S SOCIETY BLOOD DRIVE

In response to our Nation's current crisis, the Greater Southlake Women's Society held a blood drive on Friday, September 14, 2001 from 8:30am - 3:30pm at the Southlake Senior Activity Center.

Lynn Flaherty, Health and Safety Chairperson, stated the maximum donations they could schedule Friday was 104.  By 10:00am they had exceeded that goal and began taking names and numbers of individuals for future blood drives.

TIME OF PRAYER AND REMEMBRANCE

Answering the call by President Bush for a time of prayer and remembrance during the lunch hour today, clergy representing several Southlake churches will hold a community memorial service at noon at the Family Park Pavilion in Southlake Town Square. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Democratic Picnic and Rally Cancelled

Due to the tragic events of September 11, 2001, the Democratic Picnic and Rally at Bear Creek Park in Keller will be cancelled.  The event was for all Democrats of Northeast Tarrant County and was to be held on September 15th at 5:00 PM.  We hope to reschedule at a future date.

Teachers and students will gather in front of the school at 8:10 a.m. and say the Pledge of Allegiance together. Principal Paul Jennings says, "In this small but demonstrative way, we at Silver Lake will show our unity with our country in this time of sorry."

Grapevine High
Students are making an American flag out to send to New York. With an idea "hosted" by the art department at GHS, during lunch on Friday (11:40-1:55) students will be signing in red to make the red stripes and in blue to make the blue stripes. Art teacher Elizabeth Kruger plans to have the flag laminated and will send it to New York Mayor Giuliani. Other students within the art department have begun making an American flag quilt which will also be sent to New York.

Colleyville middle celebrates American spirit with $7,000 donation and usa celebrity pep rally

Students at Colleyville Middle School will show that the spirit of America is as strong as ever at a "Celebrate America" pep rally on Friday, Sept. 14 at 2:30 p.m. at the school's athletic field. At the rally, it will be announced that students, staff and their families, spearheaded by the school's PALS student organization, donated $7,000 for the American Red Cross' victim relief effort.

Texas Motorspeedway Race is Cancelled

The Texas Motorspeedway has informed LNO this weekend races are cancelled.  The Speedway indicated they will consider an October date to reschedule the race.  All other NASCAR races have been cancelled along with the NFL and Major League Baseball. Major League Baseball will resume next Monday.

Students in GCISD schools have created their own ways to "do something" in response to the devastating events of Sept. 11. Ideas have come from the students themselves, even in the elementary schools, and students are enthusiastic about having a way to show support for their country, as well as a way to help the victims and families.
