Colleyville Lion's Club X-SIGHTment Run to be Held on August 25

On August 25, 2001 the Colleyville Lions Club will sponsor its Fourth Annual xSIGHTment Run to benefit sight preserving charities. The events include a 1 mile fun run and walk, a 5K sanctioned run/walk, free pancake breakfast and T-shirts for the runners, trophies, cash and other prizes, food, beverages and entertainment.

The Fun Run begins at 7:30 a.m. at Colleyville Heritage High School in Colleyville, Texas with the 5K Run starting at 8:00 a.m. Late registrations and packet pick-up begins at 6:30 a.m. The awards ceremony, with State Representative Vicki Truitt as the Honorary Chairman, begins at 9:30 a.m. along with prize drawings including two tickets wherever Southwest Airlines flies. Frank Carroll, Lions Club Second Vice President and Underwriting Chairman for the Run said "We have sixty-one sponsors this year including our two lead sponsors, the Star Telegram and the Life Without Debt Program. Last year we were able to donate $19,000 to charities such as the Lions Tarrant County Organ and Eye Bank, Leader Dogs for the Blind, Katherine Alexander Vision Center, and Retina Foundation of the Southwest. We hope to substantially improve that number this year," Mr. Carroll said.

Wade Morris, Race Chairman, expects more than 400 participants in the 5K run. "The trophies, the prizes and the T-shirts far exceed what participants receive in most other races" said Mr. Morris, who puts on major races as a business. "This race is now well-known among runners for quality and prizes, and we are continuing to grow," he said.

Spectators are admitted free to the race and parking at the High School is free. A pancake breakfast is available for non-runners for $4.00 and xSIGHTment Run T-shirts from previous years will be sold for $5.00.

Anyone interested in participating as a runner or walker can register at the Fort Worth Running Company until August 23, on-line at www.active.com or by calling Metro 817-282-1670. The pre-registration fee is $15.00 prior to August 21 and $18.00 from August 21 through August 24, 2001. Race day fees are $20.00 per runner. For more information contact Wade Morris at or call Metro 817-282-1670.

"It's a lot of fun for families and a challenge for serious runners.  Thanks to our sponsors and participants, we are able to help sight-impaired adults and children experience a new world", Mr. Carroll said.

The Colleyville Lions Club, which meets every Friday at 7:00 a.m. at the Colleyville Community Center, is a part of Lions Clubs International both having as their primary, but not only, charitable goal to prevent blindness and restore sight. Collectively the Lions Clubs provide 20,000 blindness reversals or sight corrections per week worldwide. "The Colleyville Lions Club has collected and donated 400 pairs of glasses per month this year" according to Colleyville Lions Club President Louis Miller.
