The
Highland Meadows Homeowners Association sponsored their annual
Independence Day Parade and Carnival on Wednesday, July 4th.
The parade began at 9:00 a.m. and attracted approximately
200 residents. Parade
Marshall this year was "Betsy Ross", aka resident
Beverly Beck's mother. The
Colleyville Police and Fire Departments participated as well.
Children rode decorated bicycles, walked patriotically
dressed dogs and resident David Holmes even brought his horse.
Neighbors not participating in the parade watched from
their front lawns as the group proceeded to the cul-de-sac on
Kenshire Court for the carnival.

The
celebration is an annual event in the neighborhood, having its
inception in the early 1990's when the subdivision was in the
early stages of development.
It was created to give residents an opportunity to get to
know each other and share the holiday together.
The carnival has grown to include many games, activities
and free refreshments. A
contest is also held each year to encourage residents to decorate
their mailboxes in creative and patriotic ways.

What a great, old-fashioned way to celebrate the
Fourth of July in our town with friends and neighbors.
