Pleasant Run School Holds 26th Reunion...

Former students of the Pleasant Run School held their 26th annual reunion at the Colleyville Community Center Saturday, June 9.  The original Pleasant Run School was established and operating in present-day Colleyville by 1870.  Classes were held without interruption through the 1962-1963 school year.  During those years the school name remained constant while the name of the community it served changed from Pleasant Run to Bransford and finally to Colleyville.

The first alumni picnic was held on the grounds of the First National Bank, the site presently occupied by Chase Bank on Highway 26, eleven years after the school closed.  The Pleasant Run School District consolidated with the Grapevine School District and the building was no longer needed as a school.  It still stands at the southwest corner of the intersection of Pleasant Run Road and Church Street, but is presently unoccupied.

The original picnic was such a success that a committee was organized to plan and implement future reunions.  This year's event, planned by Joy and Steve Trent, marks the first time the "younger" generation has been responsible for the reunion.  Long time Colleyville resident Lydia Tirk Alholm praised the Trents for their efforts, and acknowledged the passing of the responsibility from those of her era to that of the Trents.

The reunion is held the first Saturday in June each year.  Former students, teachers and their families are invited.  Visitors at this year's event included representatives from the Colleyville Historical Committee, Mike Taylor, Joe Duepree and Lila Coley.  Mike Taylor spoke to the crowd of approximately 75 people, recognizing their contribution to Colleyville's history and requested that they consider sharing photographs and memorabilia with the city for use in a future museum to be located at the Webb House, a historical home now owned by the city.  Attendees enjoyed reminiscing and meeting with old friends, as well as a delicious covered dish lunch.
