The
Parenting Center Announces Free Classes in Northeast Tarrant
County...
Free
classes in parenting have been scheduled for July and August at
Cook Children's Medical Center Northeast in Hurst.
"Making Rules and Enforcing Consequences" will be
offered on Tuesday, July 17, and "Who's In Charge Here?"
on Tuesday, August 21.
Both classes will be from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
The Center is located at 6316 Precinct Line Road in Hurst.
In the "Making Rules" class participants will
learn step-by-step procedures for rule setting to avoid negative
behavior patterns.
The objective of "Who's In Charge" is to teach
parents how to maintain authority while respecting the child's
self-esteem.
These
classes and others are offered by The Parenting Center, an
organization founded in 1975 in Fort Worth by a special task force
of
The
Junior League.
Initially established to combat child abuse and neglect,
the Center has evolved into a source for comprehensive parenting
education as well as a respected provider of clinical services.
With established locations in Fort Worth and Arlington, the
Center is looking to expand services into the northeast Tarrant
county area.
In fact, that is a goal of their recently adopted strategic
plan according to Barbara Lamsens, Executive Director of The
Parenting Center.
"We currently work with the Alliance for Children in
Hurst and would be interested in establishing a satellite office
if we could acquire donated space somewhere in the area"
Lamsens said.
Customers
of the Center include parents, grandparents, foster parents, step
parents, and others wanting to become more successful in their
relationships with children.
Their mission statement is "Providing families the
tools to succeed".
More than fifty topics developed by experts in child
development and parenting are offered for on-site classes and may
be scheduled at churches, businesses, schools, mom's groups, or
other locations.
Information or schedules may be obtained by calling Jill
Gutbier or Lisa Smith at 817-332-6348, or by accessing the
Center's web site at www.theparentingcenter.org.
A special program offered by the Center, Family Business,
allows corporations to sponsor classes in the workplace for
employees.
Examples of classes conducted in the past include
"Balancing Work & Family" and "Single
Parenthood".
