Dateline: May
2, 2001 Friends of the Colleyville Public Library held the first fundraiser at the Colleyville Community Center on May 1, 2001.. Ms. Carol Wollin, Co-Chair with Mrs. MaryAnn Nicholson, said there were close to 100 attendees. "Today was more of an opportunity to provide information and let everyone know that we are here" stated Ms. Wollin. We are looking forward to the groundbreaking ceremony that is scheduled for January but could be held as early as December. "We didn't really have a goal set for today but the day was a huge success", Ms. Wollin expressed. Mr. Dave Lieber, Master of Ceremonies, played "Regis" for the "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" Colleyville Team Challenge. The attendees were placed in groups of four. There were "lifelines" available to buy that provided the participants a chance to ask the "Summer Santa", a.k.a. Andrew Wayne for his advice or a 50/50 from Ms. Ret Stansberger. Ms. Stansberger would give two of the wrong answers, leaving one wrong answer and the right answer. There were also door prizes and a silent auction available. All proceeds from the silent auction and the "lifelines" went to the library fund. Ms. Carol Wollin stated the event was such a success due to the hard work provided by all the volunteers and along with Ms. Nicholson, would like to thank them.
The Organizing Committee was Mary Andrews, Susan Barzelay, Jo Ann Bennett, Skip and Nancy Bowen, Lila Coley, Dana Feldman, Geni Garrison, Myra Goldberg, Pat Jones, Denise Light, Jim and Dulce Moore, Kim Parham, Suzanne Scott and Maurine Wood. Also, the Master of Ceremonies, Dave Lieber, and the local celebrities, Ret Stansberger and Andrew Wayne. Ms. Wollin stated that The Fort Worth Star-Telegram will be hosting a "Book Author" luncheon for the NE Tarrant county Friends of the Library for Colleyville, Grapevine and Southlake. The event is tentatively scheduled for October 24 with the location and authors names to be announced at a later date.
