William D. Tate, Mayor
Mayor - William D. Tate has been a resident of Grapevine for 51 years and established his law office in Grapevine in May, 1969. He served as Grapevine City Attorney from 1969-72, was elected to the Grapevine City Council, June 1972 and then was elected Mayor in June 1973, serving until 1985. Mr. Tate was re-elected Mayor in May 1988 and has continued as Mayor since then.
C. Shane Wilbanks, Place 1
Council Place 1 - C. Shane Wilbanks has been a Grapevine resident for 25 years. He served on the Planning and Zoning Commission for two years, and also served as chairman of the Advisory Board of the Grapevine Convention and Visitor's Bureau prior to being elected to the City Council in April, 1985. Mr. Wilbanks was re-elected to Place 1 for a three-year term in May, 2000.
Sharron Spencer, Place 2
Council Place 2 - Sharron Spencer has been a Grapevine resident for over 20 years and is retired from American Airlines. She served as Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission for 6 years prior to being elected to the Council in April, 1985. Ms. Spencer was re-elected to Place 2 for a three-year term in May, 2000.
Clydene Johnson, Place 3
Council Place 3 - Clydene Johnson has been a Grapevine resident for 29 years and is the owner of an independent insurance agency. She has served on the City of Grapevine's Airport Task Force, Festival Commission and Main Street Committee. Mrs. Johnson is a past President of the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce and was elected to the City Council in May, 1995.
Darlene Freed, Place 4
Council Place 4 - Darlene Freed has been a Grapevine resident for 15 years and is the owner of an independent commercial real estate consulting firm. She is a member of the Grapevine Heritage Foundation, the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce, as well as a graduate of the first Grapevine Leadership Class in 1990. In addition, Darlene has participated as a steering committee member for various Grapevine festivals. Prior to being elected to the City Council in May 1998, she served for over 5 years on the Planning and Zoning Commission (most recently as Vice Chairman). She is married and the proud mother of one son, Wesley, who is 16 years old.
Ted Ware, Place 5 Mayor Pro Tem
Council Place 5 - Mayor Pro Tem - Ted R. Ware has been a Grapevine resident for 44 years and is a painting contractor. He served as Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission prior to being appointed to the City Council in February, 1979 to fill an unexpired term. Mr. Ware was then elected to the City Council in April 1979 and has served as Mayor Pro Tem since 1980. He was re-elected in May of 1999.
Roy Stewart, Place 6
Council Place 6 - Roy Stewart, elected in May, 1996, is a local construction company owner and has been in Grapevine for 15 years. Mr. Stewart and his wife, Joan, are very active in community affairs. Mr. Stewart serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Texas Bank - Grapevine, past President of the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce, and served as Chairman of the City's 1994 Bond Committee. He has also donated his time to local civic organizations.
