TIMBERS MIDDLE SCHOOL TO HOST MATH AND SCIENCE COMPETITION
Cross
Timbers Middle School will host over 700 students from 40 plus schools
from the North Texas area at a TMSCA math and science competition this
Saturday, Dec. 1. The competition will begin at 9 a.m. with the Number
Sense test and will culminate in the award's ceremony held in the CTMS
gymnasium at 2:30 pm. Students will compete in Number Sense, Calculator,
Mathematics and Science, with 5th through 8th graders competing for
individual medals and team trophies and Sweepstakes awards for each
grade level. In addition, an outstanding student for the competition
will be recognized for each grade level. Many area businesses have
donated door prizes for the coaches and volunteers. The Cross Timbers
Math and Science team is state ranked in Number Sense (4th) and
Mathematics (3rd) and are the defending 4A state champions in Science.
The math events
are coached by Ruthanne Bloyd and the science team is coached by Eileen
Dinneen.
GCISD'S
PARENTS AND TEACHERS PROGRAM TO HOLD MEETING
GCISD’s Parents
and Teachers program will host a parent meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 7
p.m. Roger Stewart, fireman with the City of Grapevine, will discuss the
safe use of fire extinguishers and general safety tips.
"TRANSITION:
BEYOND HIGH SCHOOL" GCISD’s
Special Services Department will present a special program, Transition:
Beyond High School, for parents of special services students on Monday,
Dec. 10, 7-8:30 p.m. in the district’s Instructional Support Center,
3050 Timberline Dr., Grapevine. The program will be presented by Gail
Madden, GCISD's new Transition Specialist BEAR
CREEK ELEMENTARY Sue
Newman from the American Red Cross will speak to Bear Creek Elementary
first-graders on Thursday, Dec. 6, 8:30-10:45 a.m., about the history of
the Red Cross, its current role in American life, and tell them about a
new children's art and writing contest sponsored by the Red Cross. Her
visit corresponds to the first grade's study of the famous American
historical figure, Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross. COLLEYVILLE
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Fifth Grade
students serving as members of the Safety Patrol at Colleyville
Elementary will be treated to a Chick-fil-A luncheon one Thursday, Dec.
13, at 11:50 a.m. for fulfilling their duties for the first semester of
school. Chick-fil-A is a Partner in Excellence with CES. In addition to
providing meals for the sixty plus Safety Patrol members twice each
school year, they have furnished red vests for the Safety Patrol members
to wear while on duty. They also provide Ice Dream and Chick-fil-A Kids’
Meals for the Accelerated Reader Program at CES.
READERS'
LICENSE PARTY All
Colleyville Elementary students who have received Readers’ License
from the Accelerated Reader Program are invited to a Readers’ Party on
Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 9:45 a.m. in the media center. The party is being
be hosted by Loretta Ross, CES principal, and Judy McDoniel, assistant
principal. Kindergarten and first grade students must read 20
Accelerated Reader (AR) books to receive their Readers’ License.
Students in grades 2 – 5 must accumulate 25 points in the AR program
to receive their license. Another party will be held in May. CES
STUDENT COUNCIL SUPPORTS GRACE The
Student Council of Colleyville Elementary School will support GRACE by
conducting a Toy and Food Drive during December 1st – 14th. CES
students are being asked to donate Stove Top Stuffing and/or instant
potatoes (boxed) for Christmas food baskets to be delivered to families
in the Colleyville community. Each grade level is being asked for a
special donation. K-1st grade students are asked to bring coloring books
and crayons while 2nd graders will bring puzzles. Third graders are
asked to bring dolls or action figures and students in grade four will
supply sports equipment such as basketballs, tennis rackets, or
footballs. Fifth grade students are asked to bring jewelry and watches. DOVE
ELEMENTARY
On Dec 6, Dove
Elementary students will participating in the Grapevine Christmas Parade
on Main Street in Grapevine starting at 7 p.m. Selected students will
ride Dove Elementary School's float and the Dove Choir will be walking
and singing their favorite Christmas songs.

DAY
On Dec 7, Dove
Elementary is celebrating Spirit Day by wearing the school colors of red
and blue. Students are invited to show school spirit by wearing a Dove
shirt or the school colors.

CLUB SPONSORS PANCAKE BREAKFAST WITH SANTA
Dove Elementary School's
Dad Club is sponsoring "Pancake Breakfast with Santa" on
December 8, in the school cafeteria from 7 -11 a.m. and invite holiday
shoppers to stop by for a bite to eat on the way to the mall.
MAIN
EVENT NIGHT FOR DOVE ELEMENTARY
Main Event night for
Dove Elementary is Dec. 10 and the school receives a percentage of sales
from the night. Fifteen dollars per person includes laser tag, bowling
and fun for the entire family, while helping Dove Elementary too!
DOVE
ELEMENTARY HOLDS SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR
Dove Elementary School
is having a Scholastic Book Fair December 10-14.
Parents are
invited to visit the fair and encourage their child's love of reading
with exciting books and educational learning products. The fair is open
each day 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., except Friday, when it closes at 12
p.m. Family Event Night is on Tuesday, Dec 11, from 5:30-8 p.m.,
featuring an evening activity, refreshments, and a door prize of $25 in
free books for one lucky Dove student, as well as $25 for his/her

"ICE
CREAM WITH THE PRINCIPAL" Dove
Elementary is having "Ice Cream with the Principal" on Dec 13,
when recognition is given to those students who have been chosen as
Dynamic Dolphins by their teachers. These students also will have their
picture taken with Debra Lewis, Dove principal. CALENDAR

KISTLER TO VISIT DOVE ELEMENTARY
Mark Kistler, public
television's favorite drawing teacher, will be at Dove Elementary School
on Dec. 19 at 8:15 a.m. in the cafeteria. The Dove Elementary PTA is
sponsoring Mark Kistler's "Learn to draw in 3-D" presentation
for all Dove students. With the use of an overhead projector, a
television and VCR, Kistler will lead students on a three-dimensional
journey into the realm of art. Kistler , host of the PBS television
series Mark Kistler's Imagination Station, believes that learning how to
draw in three dimensions works to increase a child's critical thinking
skills.

School Winter Carnival social is December 7th. Sixth graders will attend
from 6-7:30 p.m.; seventh and eighth graders will attend from 8-10 p.m.

COURIER" FINALIST AT STATE PTA CONVENTION Congratulations
to Jean Marie Cinotto, last year's editor of the Colt Courier. The
publication was a finalist at the recent State PTA convention in the

HIGH SCHOOL Soccer
players in grades K-6 are invited to participate in a Winter Skills Camp
on Dec. 15, instructed by members of the Nationally Ranked CHHS Varsity
Girls Soccer Team and Varsity Boys Soccer Team. Designed with the
elementary school soccer player in mind, the camp will be held from 10
a.m.- 2 p.m. and the content will focus on development of
age-appropriate techniques. The $32 registration fee will cover the
camp, t-shirt, pizza lunch and soda. Checks should be made out to CHHS
Soccer Booster Club.
Each player should
come appropriately dressed for the day’s weather with all necessary
soccer gear: shin guards, shoes, ball and water bottle. For more

Grapevine High School’s
Mustang Band will present its annual holiday concert on Thursday, Dec.
13, at 7 p.m. in the newly renovated Madeleine Hemley Auditorium of
Grapevine High School. The GHS Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Honors Band
and Wind Ensemble will perform traditional holiday music. The free
concert is open to the public.

STUDENTS HAVE POEMS PUBLISHED
Three Grapevine High
School students have had poems published in the magazine, The High
School Writer, Volume 12, Number 3. They are students in the Creative
Writing class taught by Julie Moore. Michael Goldman wrote "Our
Flag;" Jordan Talley published "A Living Pen;"Amanda Weir
penned "Prison."

INVITED TO 20TH ANNUAL MONTGOMERY BELL ACADEMY LINCOLN DOUGLAS DEBATE
Grapevine High School
senior Orijit Ghoshal has been invited to the 20th Annual Montgomery
Bell Academy Lincoln Douglas Debate Round Robin in Nashville, TN,
January 4-7, 2002. This is the oldest and most prestigious round robin
in the United States. Only twelve individuals of the thousands who
participate in debate across the country are invited to attend. Orijit
has participated in debate for four years. His recent debate successes
include:
- 1st Place at the
Greenhill Fall Classic AND Greenhill Round Robin
- Top 8 at the St.
Mark's tournament
- Top 32 at the
Glenbrooks tournament in Chicago.
- Top 8 at the National
Tournament of Champions last spring
Top 30 at the NFL
National Tournament last summer and being named a "fellow"
at the Kentucky Debate Institute last summer.
Also, Orijit is
ranked second in his class and is a semi finalist for the National
Merit Scholarship. The debate team is coached by Jane Boyd and Heather
Kimbrough.
AIDS
AWARENESS WEEK
Grapevine High School
will be participating in the Aids Awareness week December 3 through the
7. The GHS Student Council is very excited about this particular week
because this year the Dallas chapter of The Names Project is bringing a
section of the Aids Quilt for display. On Wednesday, the Aids Quilt will
be showcased in the Grapevine High School Auditorium for students,
teachers, faculty and staff to view from 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will
be literature and red remembrance ribbons available to those who come to
see the quilt. The mission of the Dallas Chapter of the Names Project is
to use the AIDS Memorial Quilt to help bring an end to AIDS. Eddie
Ledesma, the Co-Chair of the Health and Safety Committee for the GHS
Student Council, says, “Working with Steven Dean from the Names
Project was GREAT! He was extremely helpful in helping plan Aids
Awareness Week”
