CJHS Assistant Earns Honor

Congratulations to Jerry Hollingsworth of Carroll Junior High School. He was one of five state finalists for the Assistant Principal of the Year Award sponsored by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals. Mr. Hollingsworth was nominated by CJHS teacher Kathy Prado. He earned the Region XI Assistant Principal of the Year award and went on to become one of five finalists in the state competition. Mr. Hollingsworth has been with Carroll ISD since 1997, serving as a middle school, high school and junior high school assistant principal. Prior to that, he taught social studies and foreign language in HEB ISD. We're proud of you, Mr. Hollingsworth, and thank you for choosing Carroll ISD!

Carroll ISD Bands Present Winter Concerts

Carroll ISD is proud to present the musical talents of our students during the annual Winter Concerts. As part of the Fine Arts and Music curriculum, more than 1,200 students in school across the district participate in the band program and will be performing winter concerts. The public is invited to attend and to make this musical celebration a warm and wonderful addition to the holiday season. All concerts will be held at Carroll High School's Auditorium. Admission is free. The schedule is as follows:

CHS & 9th Grade - Dec. 11 @ 7 p.m.

Jazz Concert - Dec. 12 @ 7 p.m.

CJHS 7th & 8th Grades - Dec. 13 @ 6 p.m.

CMS & CIS - Dec. 14 @ 7 p.m.

DIS & EIS - Dec. 18 @ 7 p.m.

Dragon Forensic Team Competes

This past weekend the Dragon Forensic Team competed with 21 other schools at the Flower Mound High School Invitational. The following students placed during this competition: Jeff Geels, Octofinalist in LD and fourth place in Foreign Extemp; Melissa Chu, sixth place in Foreign Extemp; and Melissa Chu & David Strauss, and Hannah Silvern & Taimur Rabbani, Quarterfinalists in Policy Debate. Semifinalists in Extemp were Shamaila Malik, Michael Ellis, Jennifer Li and Taimur Rabbani. Congratulations to these students and their sponsor Dixie Waldo.

Thank You CISD

Carroll ISD employees contributed a total of $6,475 to the United Way this year. This exceeds last year's donations by more than $2,000.

School Board To Meet December 10

Due to winter break, the Carroll ISD School Board will meet on Monday, December 10 at the school administration building, 1201 N. Carroll Avenue. The meeting will begin with a 6 p.m. closed session, followed by a 6:30 p.m. open session. Trustees are expected to hear the Administration's transition plan for the 9/10 and 11/12 split configuration, as well as information about the proposed 2002-2003 school calendar. A complete agenda will be posted on the district's web site later this week. The Nov. 12 School Board meeting is being shown on Cable TV 33 in Southlake at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily.

District Congratulates Student Violinist

Carroll High School sophomore Henry Jin continues to make a name for himself as a violinist. Henry has made the roster for the 2002 Texas All-State Orchestra String Section. This is the top orchestra for all-state honors. Brasses and woodwinds will be announced later pending all-state band auditions. Congratulations to Henry on this achievement.

Two CHS Students Advance

Congratulations to junior Cole Grissom (1st chair) and senior Megan Shiff (2nd chair) for advancing to the next round of the All-State Choir contest. These students' fourth and final round of competition is January 12 at Trinity High School.

Radio Station to Carry Saturday's Game Live

The football playoff game between Carroll and Wolfforth-Frenship will be carried live on radio station KAAM 770-AM beginning at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8. The broadcast will feature Bill Coates and Travis Smith on the play-by-play. The Dragons will play Frenship at 2 p.m. at Wichita Falls Memorial Stadium. Gates will open at 12:30 p.m. There will be no pre-game ticket sales at the request of our opponents. Tickets at the gate will cost $7 for adults and $4 for students.

Our Newest Little Dragons

Congratulations to Erin Denny (CJHS) and her husband on the birth of twin sons last Friday. Ben and Luke Denny each weighed five pounds. Congratulations also to Cori Williams (RES) on the recent birth of a son, Trae Larenz Williams. Congratulations also to Pat Pomoro (CES). Her family recently celebrated the birth of a new granddaughter. Now Pat and Darla Chupp (CES) can swap grandma stories!

With Sympathy

Our sympathy is extended to the family of Donna Leggett (CES/RES) on the recent death of her mother.

A Celebration of History and Culture. . .

Second grade students at Old Union Elementary recently celebrated Native American Day. This culminating project concluded a three-week study of Native Americans. Each second grade class represented a different Native American tribe and selected a traditional craft to teach to their peers. Students rotated through the grade level, learning four Native American tribes and their cultural celebrations. Students made face masks, ankle bracelets, paintings and oil pastel pueblos.

Winter Break

All CISD Schools and Offices will be closed December 20 through January 4. Employees will return for staff development on January 3 and 4. Students will return on Monday, January 7.

Aquatics Center To Host Meet

The Carroll ISD Aquatics Center hosted its first meet this week. Don't miss the action on Tuesday, December 11 when the CHS Swim Team will host Coppell for a dual meet at 6 p.m. in the new Aquatics Center.

Joint Academic Cocurricular Enhancement Committee/Technology Committee meeting on Wednesday, December 12 at Carroll Junior High School. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Budget & Finance Committee meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19 at the Administrative Annex.
