two grapevine high school seniors recipients of the 2001 national council of teachers of English achievement awards in writing

Melissa Minshew and Stuart Wallace, seniors at Grapevine High School, are recipients of the 2001 National Council of Teachers of English Achievement Awards in Writing. The superior achievement of each winner is a reflection of the teachers and English department at Grapevine High School.

Over 2,000 juniors were nominated this year for Achievement Awards in Writing. Each piece of writing submitted by a nominee was read and evaluated by two judges, one high school and one college English teacher.

A third judge, usually the state coordinator for the program, settled differences between evaluations to help produce the final list of students. These GHS winners are among the best student writers in the country. The selection of them as nominees and the judges' conscientious and sensitive reading of their entries ensured that only outstanding student writers were selected for the awards.

Janice Cook is department chair for the GHS English department.
