GCISD
Board announces six finalists... After
approximately two hours in Executive Session, Tuesday, June 12,
the GCISD Board announced the top six finalists for the two open
Board positions.
Mark
Born, President, first thanked everyone for the "heightened
level of interest" and then announced the finalists.
They will have 15 minute interviews on June 19. Mr. Born
also stated that "we will appoint the two replacements that
evening."

Mr.
Born requested that the candidates keep their calendars free for a
Convention on June 21, 22 and 23 for necessary training.
When
asked what process the Board took to make the final selections,
Mr. Born stated, "We looked at the answers to the interview
questions, reviewed the skills set by each candidate and what
they had to offer the Board to help in the mission to move to a
National level."
Also
on the agenda was a recommendation for the Board to approve
several deductive Change Orders. Following is a list of the
Change Orders requested and approved by the Board 5-0.

The
Board was briefed by Hank Johnson, Director of Financial Services,
on legislative updates, revenue projections, comparison of full
year to short year and outstanding critical issues. Click

Reductions - how would the board like to present cost containment?
Barbara
Keeney, Secretary, "We need to really review what the impact
is on cost reduction. We have spent years decreasing the
class size and that has contributed to our schools being exemplary."

evening concluded with the announcement that the GCISD Board of
Trustees will be extending a welcome to the new Superintendent of
Schools, Dr. Kevin Singer, and his family on Thursday, June 14,
2001 from 6:30 - 8:00 PM at the Cross Timbers Middle School
