| Bea Wright wanted
something to make her the special grandmother when she moved to
this area to be near her grandchildren so she began telling
stories.
Friday the 13th of, July 20, that is, an evening with Wright
and Ray Zempruch who were the featured tale spinners when the
Tarrant Area Guild of Storytellers hosted "Stories Under the
Stars". Listeners leaned back in their lawn chairs and
listened to tales of unusual relatives, old world cemeteries, and
crickets.

The peaches were
sweet but the air was hot Saturday, July 14, 2001, morning for the
annual Grapevine Peach Cobbler and Peach Delight Contest, held on
the dock of the Grapevine Visitors and Information Center.

City
of Grapevine Annual Night Out Event
| The City
of Grapevine will celebrate the Third Annual Pre-national Night
Out on Saturday, August 4, 2001. This award-winning event will
be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Grapevine Heritage
Center and Depot Station located at 701 S. Main Street. The
annual celebration is a kick-off to the National Night Out 2001
events that will be held on Tuesday, August 7th in Grapevine and
throughout the country. National Night Out is an annual event
sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and law
enforcement agencies in an effort to promote meeting the people
who live in your neighborhood. By working together with local
law enforcement, neighbors can help reduce the amount of crime
in their neighborhoods by getting to know each other better. |

Among the
activities planned this year, will be a police and fire car show
that promises to be unique and exciting. The car show features
antique, low rider, DARE and Beat the Heat racecars, which are
all police vehicles. This is not your average public safety
show! |
| This is a
free family event designed for fellowship and good clean
fun! Remember, everything including entry fee, children's games,
clowns, music, refreshments, hot dogs and popcorn are free! Plan
to attend and have a great time. No pets please.

WELCOME LUNCHEON FOR GCISD NEW TEACHERS

The Education Foundation of the
Grapevine-Colleyville ISD will host the annual New Teacher Luncheon,
August 3, at the Grapevine Convention Center. Local residents and
businesses are invited to participate in "A Texas Welcome to GCISD:
Where Excellence is Always in Style", by providing raffle items or
sponsorships.
The Foundation hopes to have enough raffle items
so that the proceeds cover a welcome gift worth $25 or more for each new
educator. To donate a raffle item contact the Education Foundation
office at (817)251-5481. Donors of raffle items received by July 24 will
be listed in the program.
When making reservations, $40 provides for an
educator and sponsor. Sponsorships paid by July 24 will be included in
the program. A single ticket is $20. Reservations should be sent to the
Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Education Foundation, P.O. Box 292, Grapevine,
TX 76099.
The Co-Chairs of the New Teacher Luncheon, Janet
Hood-Hanchey, Ph.D. and Janice Kane noted that the luncheon is a
wonderful opportunity to share in community spirit and support
educators..

News Only.com announced the Staff addition of Sherree Gable.
Sherree has been assigned as the Senior Reporter for
Grapevine. Sherree formerly was a Staff Writer with UTA
Shorthorn in Arlington and, prior to joining LNO, was the Editor
of the Alvarado Star Bulletin. Editor Linda Newton made the
announcement today. LNO will reformat to reflect the Grapevine
Edition within the next couple of weeks.
Ms. Newton also indicated that LNO
will be announcing the addition of a Staff Writer for Southlake
within the next few days. The Southlake and Keller Editions
will also be included in the new LNO format. |
