ERIN BREDON, MISS TEEN COLLEYVILLE 2001, HEADS FOR STATE PAGEANT

by Jenny M. Ahlers

Miss Teen Colleyville 2001, Erin Bredon, is not what one might consider the usual pageant queen.  She is a determined but humble young woman who has a goal in mind and is pursuing some very industrious ways toward accomplishing her dream.

While striding in late one day to her choir class at Grapevine High, Erin caught the end of an announcement about a scholarship opportunity.  Upon further inquiry, she discovered that the scholarship was actually the Miss Teen Colleyville pageant.  With her fears of swimsuit competitions calmed, she decided that she would give it a shot.   After being nominated by choir instructor Freda Middleton, Erin went on to win the title.  She is now preparing for the next level of competition, the 12th annual Miss Teenage Texas Scholarship Pageant in Houston, TX (July 13th-15th).
Most girls dream of being beauty queens, but Erin says that, “the goal isn’t to walk around and be pretty. “  Miss Bredon’s number one motive for entering the pageant is to raise money for college.  Erin’s dream is to earn a Pre-Med degree from Hardin Simmons University and to eventually become a pediatrician.  This goal is one that she is actively pursuing in her free time.  Erin currently works with children in the daycare center at Abundant Life Assembly of God Church in Grapevine, and has also participated in a student intern program in the Pediatrics and Labor and Delivery wards of Harris Methodist Hospital. Aside from caring for children, she enjoys singing in the A Cappella choir and participating in the National Honor Society at Grapevine High School.   Erin has also worked with the Colleyville Chamber of Commerce as a volunteer for the City Slicker Auction and Expo of Excellence, and also participated in  the construction of the Kidsville playground at City Park in Colleyville.

Getting to the Miss Teenage Texas pageant has proven to be a challenge in itself for Miss Bredon.  Erin has been working hard to raise the money needed for all the costs that go along with entering the state pageant.  This past weekend she hosted a Premier Jewelry party to earn the free jewelry that she will be wearing in the pageant.  With the support of the Grapevine-Colleyville community, Erin has raised over $800 in donations.

Miss Teen Colleyville admits that she is a quiet person who really enjoys listening and meeting new people.  Erin doesn’t want to get her hopes up for winning the upcoming pageant.  She would be thrilled to get into the top 5, but most looks forward to getting to know the other contestants from around the state. Erin’s proud parents, Linda and Alan Bredon, and sister Kelly will all be there to cheer her on as she represents the City of Colleyville and competes for the title of Miss Teenage Texas 2001.
