Watch Out for the Kids

Dateline Colleyville: August 04, 2001

Watch Out for the Kids

Soon school will begin and the kids will be walking, riding bikes, skating and RUNNING to get to class on time.  We need to remember that we drive vehicles that weigh in excess of 3000 pounds and at 20 MPH that is an enormous amount of kinetic energy.  The human body is such a frail organism.  Watch out for the Kids.  They have tunnel-vision most of the time and do not even think that you will not or can not stop if they run out in front of you.  We have been very lucky in Colleyville with no reported pedestrian injuries on our children and we would like to keep it that way.

Plan ahead.  Allow extra time to go through school zones on your way to work, shop or other activity.  The first two weeks of school are harrowing at best for the children and parents trying to get into the BACK TO SCHOOL ROUTINE.  If you are one of them be prepared for the changes in the streets of Colleyville and how this may affect your route and time schedule.

Hall Johnson is open, Bluebonnet has changed and Glade Road is being realigned.  The new Super Target in Euless construction traffic may affect CHHS traffic, we will not know this until it happens.

If you are a new resident of Colleyville and are delivering your children to school, a trial run might be in order.  When doing this envision several hundred parents, students, crossing guards, police officers and their respective vehicles all trying to do the same thing you want to do.  And that is to GET THE CHILDREN TO AND FROM SCHOOL SAFELY.
