AHA Northeast Tarrant to Honor Volunteers

The Northeast Tarrant Division of the American Heart Association will honor top volunteers and supporters from the past year at its annual awards luncheon on Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Texas Star Sports and Conference Center in Euless. The lunch will begin at 11:45 a.m. Tickets are $22.50 each. Reservations are required by Aug. 18.

This year's award recipients will include volunteers who worked on such events as American Heart Walk, Affair of the Heart Gala, Jump Rope for Heart and local educational programs. In addition, one regional and one state award will be presented to local volunteers.

New board members and officers also will be introduced at the luncheon. The American Heart Association's national goal is to reduce death and disability from heart disease by 25 percent by the year 2010. Currently, cardiovascular disease is the number one killer in the United States, causing more deaths each year than the next seven leading causes combined. Locally, 41 percent of all deaths recorded in Tarrant County during 1998 were related to cardiovascular disease.
