CITY,
YOUTH ASSOCIATION PURCHASE SOCCER GOALS
|
The Southlake Parks
Development Corporation and the Grapevine Southlake Soccer Association
have jointly purchased five sets of soccer goals at Bob Jones Park,
significantly increasing the number of fields available for youth
competition.
Three of the new goals
are designed for use by 11-over and older leagues, potentially including
adult leagues if any are started in the future. The other
two goals are sized for the younger leagues. All five fields are located
along White Chapel Boulevard, south of the fields already installed and
north of the baseball fields currently under construction.
The soccer association
had applied for a 50-50 matching grant from SPDC, which agreed to share
equally in the total $8,100 cost for the five sets of goals. The goals
are now in place and are among the 10 fields being used by the soccer
league at Bob Jones Park. |

According to GSSA
Southlake Fields Commissioner Peter Gaal, the association plan other
joint projects with the city. The league and the city are working
together on a plan called "Soccer 2010" that will address
soccer facility needs for the next decade.
The Southlake Parks
Development Corporation was created by the voters of Southlake and is
funded through a half-cent sales tax that is used to acquire and develop
park property within the city.
The Grapevine Southlake
Soccer Association (GSSA) provides recreational soccer for children ages
4-18 in Southlake and Grapevine, holding both fall and spring seasons.
Registration information is available on the GSSA Web site, www.gssasoccer.org.
