GRAPEVINE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE OCTOBER LUNCHEON by: Kimberly Connor |
|
Dateline: Grapevine - October 12, 2001 1:41 PM The Grapevine Area Chamber of Commerce held their monthly luncheon on October 11th at Stacy Furniture. The luncheon was sponsored by Stacy Furniture and catered by Cliff's Star Neighborhood Grill.
Aaron Compton, Chairman of the Board, welcomed everyone and introduced Walt Milner with the Education Foundation.
Mr. Milner explained that the donations to the foundation were used locally, by GCISD teachers for GCISD programs, providing quality education to our students. He also discussed the many opportunities where businesses can help. He stated, "Many people ask me for investment advice...the best investment that you can make is by donating to this foundation because it goes to our students and they are our future."
Mr. Compton asked the new members and guests to come up and say a few words about their businesses. After everyone had introduced themselves, Mr. Compton asked everyone to take out a business card and find someone they didn't know and introduce themselves and exchange cards.
After everyone was seated, Southlake Mayor Rick Stacy, the luncheon sponsor, read a public service announcement that he had taped earlier in the week for one of the local TV stations.
Mr. Compton then introduced the speaker, Larry North. Mr. North is a well-known personal trainer and fitness personality. He will be opening a new fitness center in Southlake Town Square in the next few weeks. Mr. North wanted to discuss the tragic events that happened on September 11 and how we will overcome them. He used his father's gambling addiction as an example and showed how despite that and with the love from his mother that he was able to become the successful businessman he is today.
