WELCOME STAR-TELEGRAM READERS

TO LOCAL NEWS ONLY.COM

Dateline Colleyville, Texas: Thursday October 18, 2001 8:37 AM

For those who are visiting this site for the first time, as a result of this morning’s article in the Star-Telegram, the staff and readers (more than 32,000 visitors monthly) welcome you.

As a result of Mayor Arp's comments in this morning's Star-Telegram, if you are here to view some anonymous Internet site operated as a "coward’s tool" you will not find satisfaction.

In its short history, Local News Only.com (LNO) has distinguished itself with coverage of local news by providing documentation on its articles and providing a unique alternative news source for Colleyville, Grapevine, Southlake, Keller and surrounding areas.

In addition, LNO provides an open forum for citizens to express their personal views in the "e-mails to the editor" section. The policy of LNO, concerning what is acceptable to be posted, is stated clearly. C Click Here for-mails to editor.

It is not surprising to LNO that the Mayor of Colleyville would seize an opportunity to criticize this Colleyville based business. This mayor utilized a Texas Municipal League (TML) seminar to viciously attack this operation. The mayor’s attendance, at the July 2001 meeting, was paid for by Colleyville taxpayers.

These comments were not made in the bright light of a local public meeting or covered by the local newspapers. However, the behind the scenes comments will provide an insight to the mayor's commitment to "ignore" LNO's requests for public documents, suppress LNO's coverage of local news, and a plan to use city information to keep another from running for local political office.  The October 2, 2001 article includes LNO’s unique AUDIO feature, allowing viewers to hear the comments spoken by the mayor.

Citizens of Colleyville do not have a local newspaper. In fact the mayor has publicly stated she "brokered" the sale of the last local paper (Colleyville News & Times, owned by Raman Chandler) to the Dallas Morning News.

LNO does not represent itself as a newspaper, but as a unique news source providing "Only Local News All the Time."

The ability of this Internet news media to provide timely news coverage, with color photos, scanned documents, and actual audio distinguishes LNO from the traditional newspaper. A prime example is this response to this morning’s Star-Telegram article.

The fact that a citizen writes an e-mail to the Editor does not translate to an endorsement by this news site. The family value content policy of this site has been a matter of record since it was launched in April 2001. All e-mails to the editor require valid e-mail addresses, name and city.

From it’s inception LNO has encouraged and continues to invite public officials to make their points of view known on this site with responses that are not edited due to space constraints of the more traditional newspapers.

More importantly, LNO will continue to provide an outlet for citizens to express their points of views on matters of interest, particularly on a local basis.

LNO’s commitment to the First Amendment rights of citizens will not waiver and shall not be deterred, limited, or altered in order to abdicate to local officials with their own political agendas.
