Richard
Newton was sworn in at the beginning of last night's Colleyville City
Council meeting. The swearing in was followed by a reception
attended by well wishers and former elected officials.
After
the ceremony, and prior to official business, Mayor Arp took the
unprecedented step of asking council members to made comments directed at
the newly sworn Councilman Newton.
Councilman Hocutt, Place 1, made critical comments to Councilman Newton
about his recent campaign and called on him to "apologize". A
number of the attending audience, primarily of Newton's well wishers, were
apparently surprised at Hocutt's outburst and became vocal in their
disapproval of Hocutt's attack.
Councilman Newton appeared to ignore Hocutt's comments and stated he
intended to work with all council members.
The Hocutt comments and the council action on the McPherson Park Committee
will be posted in a follow up article.
